Mathematics – Algebra Basics

🔹 Definition of Algebra

 Algebra is a branch of mathematics that uses letters, symbols, and

numbers to represent relationships and solve problems.
 Example: 2x + 3 = 7

🔹 Key Concepts

1. Variables → Letters (x, y, z) that represent unknown values.

2. Constants → Fixed numbers (e.g., 2, 5, -7).
3. Coefficients → Numbers multiplied by variables (e.g., in 4x, coefficient
is 4).
4. Expressions → Combination of variables, constants, and operators
(e.g., 3x + 2).
5. Equations → Statement with equality (e.g., 2x + 5 = 9).

🔹 Rules of Solving Equations

 Add or subtract equally on both sides.

 Multiply or divide equally on both sides.

🔹 Example

Solve: 2x + 3 = 7
→ 2x = 7 - 3
→ 2x = 4
→x=2

🔹 Applications of Algebra

 Calculating unknown quantities

 Budgeting & finance
 Physics & Engineering problems
