Assembly instructions
SUMMARY :

- Printing Tips…………………………. P.3

- Car assembly………….……………… P.4

- Performance Improvement…………... P16

- Some data for science... or for fun math P17

For this simple project you will only need your 3D
printer, PLA, TPU for the tires and that's it. Meticulousness
will be an asset to successfully complete this project.

Even though I designed this model to make printing

easier, preparing the print bed is essential. Clean it and
coat it with glue before starting printing.

For mechanical assembly, you will not need any tool other
than the one you will print.

1
Tools :

You will need the following tools:

- A 3D printer

- PLA

- TPU but not TPU AMS

It is strongly recommended to also have:

- A little patience

2
Printing tips:
To develop my project, I used a P1S with AMS, with a
0.4mm nozzle and layer heights between 0.12mm and
0.2mm.

I have chosen and tested numerous parameters to offer

you printing profiles combining speed and quality. The
choice of support types, skirts, number of walls, filling
percentage and the position of the part are designed to
simplify printing.

You can choose your settings according to your

machine and your preferences. For mechanical parts, axes
and pinions, I recommend a minimum of 3 to 4 walls. There
is no need for support for this print. All threads must be
printed with a layer height of 0.12mm. The spring drive axis
must be printed with a layer height of 0.12mm 6 walls and
infill density of at least 35%.

Most print failures are due to poor adhesion to the bed,

make sure you have a clean bed, degreased and coated
with glue.

3
Car assembly:
Start by differentiating the parts before starting the
assembly then take the axis of the spring and pass it
through the right side of the chassis (this is the one which
has the hexagonal imprints, the left side has round
imprints). Position the wheel, paying attention to the
orientation of the flat, and tighten the nut using the wrench
until it stops.

4
Car assembly:
Place the spring as in the photo up to the stop then insert
the pins on each side of the spring by passing one of them
through the spring fixing hole.

5
Car assembly:

Place the 40mm spacers on the axles but take the time to
differentiate them because they are different and their
direction is important for the rest of the assembly.

6
Car assembly:
Position the freewheel mechanism on the spring axle and fit
it, respecting the positioning of the flat. Double-check the
orientation of this part because it is the biggest source of
assembly error. Cover it with the freewheel sprocket.

7
Car assembly:
Place the 14-31 tooth pinion on the right axle then place 3
Ø6 washers on the spring axle.

8
Car assembly:
Place the 31-48 tooth pinion on the spring axle and a Ø8
washer on top of the right pinion as well as the Ø6 spacer,
length 8mm, on top of the central pinion.

9
Car assembly:
Position the two 14-48 tooth sprockets on the right and left
axles and cover each of them with 3 washers.

10
Car assembly:
Put the left side in place and lock it with the two nuts, screw
them with your wrench until it locks.

11
Car assembly:
Place the tires on the rims, the tires must be printed in TPU
but be careful, TPU for AMS does not work. If you don't have
the ability to print one, you can make the tires with O-rings,
rubber bands or a piece of inner tube. Screw the axle into
the rim and insert a Ø6mm washer.

12
Car assembly:
Put the wheel drive pinion in place with a washer on each
side then pass the wheel axle through it.

13
Car assembly:
Place a Ø6mm washer on the protruding axle then screw
the wheel to lock the axle. Repeat on the other axle.

14
Car assembly:
Well done!!! you have finished the assembly; you should
have a few washers and a nut left (to replace the loss or
breakage). You can adjust the position so that all 4 wheels
touch the ground and finalize the tightening of the nuts
before going to play with your new car.

15
Performance Improvement:
You can improve your car's performance by adding a little
lubricant to all axles and gears. With the TPU 60A tires you will
also have better grip. An ABS spring will be stiffer and will also
improve performance.

You will find two different transmissions, a long one and a

short one: the long one allows you to cover more distance, and
the short one allows you to accelerate harder at the expense of
the distance covered. You also have the option of mounting in
traction, propulsion or 4-wheel drive.

These two sprockets replace the original 14-31 teeth & 31-48
teeth sprockets.

Some data for science... or for
fun math...
-Details of the short transmission:
48-14 x 21-41 x 48-14 x 48-14

Multiplier ratio: 20,58

-Details of the standard transmission:

48-14 x 31-31 x 48-14 x 48-14

Multiplier ratio: 40,35

-Details of the long transmission:

48-14 x 41-21 x 48-14 x 48-14

Multiplier ratio: 78,69

-Pinion module: 1
-Wheel diameter: 33mm
-Wheel circumference: 103,67mm
-Maximum number of turns of the spring: 1,75

Theoretical distance traveled depending on the transmission

chosen:

Short : 1,75 x 20,58 x 0,10367 = 3,73m

Standard : 1,75 x 40,35 x 0,10367 = 7,32m
Long : 1,75 x 78,69 x 0,10367 = 14,28m

Even more challenge:
If you like this model but find it too simple, then check
out my other spring Hot Rod models. The challenge will be
higher! In addition to moving the car forward, the spring
drives the V8 engine.
