Thermal Engineering Project Report
Ansys 2D CFD Simulation
1. Introduction
This project report focuses on Steady-State Thermal Analysis using ANSYS for a
mechanical component. Thermal engineering plays a crucial role in understanding heat
transfer mechanisms in mechanical systems, and simulation tools like ANSYS help in
optimizing designs under thermal loads.
2. Procedure
The following steps outline the complete procedure followed to perform the thermal
analysis in ANSYS:
1. Launch ANSYS Workbench and drag the 'Steady-State Thermal' module into the
project schematic.
2. Create or import the geometry of the mechanical component (e.g., rectangular bar).
3. Assign material properties such as thermal conductivity in Engineering Data.
4. Generate mesh with appropriate refinement to capture thermal gradients accurately.
5. Apply boundary conditions:
Temperature of 100°C at one end.
Convection or fixed temperature at the opposite end or faces.
6. Solve the simulation using the solver.
7. Post-process results to extract temperature contour and probe values at different nodes.
8. Save and document the simulation results.
3. Project Contour
The contour plot obtained from the simulation in ANSYS shows a clear temperature
distribution across the geometry. The gradient reflects the steady heat conduction from the
high-temperature zone to the low-temperature zone. The maximum temperature observed
is 100°C at the heated end, and the minimum is approximately 63.8°C at the cooler end.
The contour aids in visualizing thermal behavior, identifying hotspots, and validating heat
flow consistency.
