CAE Writing Task Forms

Essay (Part 1)
Introduction:

- Paraphrase the question

- Briefly introduce the topic

- Mention the two points you will focus on

Paragraph 1:

- Topic sentence (1st point from question)

- Explanation

- Example or justification

- Connect to next idea

Paragraph 2:

- Topic sentence (2nd point)

- Compare if relevant

- Explanation

- Example or support

Conclusion:

- Summarise the two points

- Give your opinion (clearly stated, impersonal tone)

Proposal
Title: Proposal for [improving/changing/etc.]
Introduction:

- State the purpose: "The aim of this proposal is to..."

Background/Current Situation:

- Describe the current problem or situation

Suggestions/Recommendations:

- Bullet points or small paragraphs

- Use modal verbs: "It is recommended that...", "One solution would be to..."

Conclusion:

- Summary of proposals

- Strong recommendation: "In conclusion, I strongly recommend that..."

Report
Title: Report on [topic]

Introduction:

- State the aim: "The purpose of this report is to examine..."

Findings/Observations:

- What you discovered / facts / survey results

Analysis/Discussion:

- Interpretation of findings

- Highlight pros/cons
Recommendations/Conclusion:

- "Based on the above, it is recommended that..."

Article
Title: (Catchy and relevant)

Introduction:

- Grab reader's attention (question, anecdote, striking fact)

- Briefly introduce the topic

Main Paragraphs:

- Develop ideas with examples, anecdotes, questions

- Keep it lively and engaging

- Talk directly to the reader

Conclusion:

- Reflective ending or final comment

- Possibly a question or piece of advice

Review
Title: Review of [film/book/restaurant]

Introduction:

- State what you're reviewing

- Context/background (e.g. director, genre)

Summary:

- Brief plot/content overview


- Avoid spoilers

Evaluation:

- What you liked/didn't like

- Use expressive adjectives and adverbs

Recommendation:

- Who it's for / whether you recommend it

- Personal opinion

Greeting:

- Dear Sir/Madam (if you don't know the name)

- Dear Mr/Ms + Surname (if you do)

Opening:

- I am writing to [explain/request/complain, etc.]
