The document outlines an experiment aimed at visualizing flow patterns through a pipe and calculating the Reynolds number to distinguish between laminar and turbulent flow. It details the experimental procedure, including the use of colored fluid for visualization and the measurement of flow rates, along with a results table showing various Reynolds number calculations. The conclusion confirms the successful achievement of the experiment's objectives, while acknowledging potential errors due to human and environmental factors.

Objective:

1- Visualize the flow pattern through a pipe.

2- Calculate Reynolds number of a flow through a circular pipe.

Introduction:
Flow visualization techniques are extremely helpful in monitoring the flow
behavior during flow also we can compare theoretical calculation of the flow
behavior to the real behavior of the flow. Usually, some type of colored fluid is
used since some fluids are transparent.
One of the quantities that can be determined through this experiment is Reynold’s
number which also includes the flow velocity. Reynold’s number is one of the most
fundamental quantities in fluid mechanics. It helps us distinguish between laminar
and turbulent flow.
In laminar flow we can see the smooth flow of the fluid. But in turbulent flow, the
fluid has more randomness.

Instrument used in this experiment:

Experimental Procedure:

1- open the supply valve and adjust the valves such that the level of the water in the
reservoir is constant.

2- Open and adjust the dye injection valve and observe whether the flow is laminar or
turbulent.

3-Measure the time the flow takes to fill a known volume. (Volume flow rate)

4-Calculate the velocity and the Reynolds number.

5-Repeat the process for turbulent, transitional, and laminar flow.

Conclusion:

In this experiment we measured the behavior of a flow through

visualization and Reynold’s number. From the result table, we can see
that we successfully have calculated 6 approximated values of Reynold’s
number which also agree with our visualization of the flow. Meaning that
after conducting this experiment, we achieved the objectives of this
experiment. Finally, due to human error, instruments issues, and
environmental conditions we cannot say our values are 100% correct.
Therefore, we should account for some margin of error.
