Why Data Quality Matters?

Imagine this—you’ve spent hours building a report,
only to realise that half the numbers are wrong.

Why? Bad data.

Dirty data can lead to:

- Wrong insights
- Poor business decisions
- Wasted time fixing errors later

The Good news is power Query has built-in tools to

Your Data’s Health Indicator
Ever noticed the thin green line under column
headers in Power Query?

It gives you a quick snapshot of your data quality:

Half Green, Half Grey - Some values are missing

Column Quality – To See the

Percentage of Errors
Want to know exactly how clean your data is?
Turn on Column Quality (under the View tab) to see
the percentage of valid, error, and empty values.

💡e.g. Imagine you are working with sales data where 5% of

the Order Date column is empty. Would you want to catch that
early? Of course! This tool helps you do just that.

Column Distribution
This helps you find duplicates and repeating values in
your data. Turn it on (under the View tab) to see:
Unique Values - Values that appear only once
Distinct Values - Total number of different values

💡e.g. Imagine your customer database has 1,000 rows but

only 500 distinct emails, meaning duplicates exist. Cleaning
them ensures accurate analysis.
