1. The type of work National Green Tribunal is engaged in (describe briefly):
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is a special judicial body set up by the National Green
Tribunal Act, 2010 to ensure that the cases involving the protection of the environment as
well as conservation of forests and other natural resources are effectively and expeditiously
disposed. It passes judgments in cases of environmental legislation like the Environment
(Protection) Act, Forest (Conservation) Act, Water Act, Air Act and the Biological Diversity
Act. The NGT offers quick solutions to environmental conflicts, is strict in the observance of
the principle of sustainable development, and balances the conservation of nature and the
requirements of development.
2. Please state your objectives in choosing this internship. What do you hope to
accomplish through this experience? Describe the particular duties you anticipate for
yourself during internship at the organization.
The goal why I selected this internship is to learn more about environmental law and how it
is practically applied within a judicial system. I would like to have first hand experience of
how the National Green Tribunal balances the environment protection with the
developmental requirements and to learn how the Tribunal implements the concepts of
sustainable development and the polluter pays principle.
This experience will assist me in enhancing my research, drafting and analytical skills and at
the same time making contributions of significance to the work of the Tribunal. I expect to
perform such responsibilities like research of environmental legislation, case law,
preparation of briefs or case summaries, and the review of petitions to get acquainted with
the procedural and substantial elements of environmental adjudication.
