Informational Text Structures Activity

Directions: Read each text carefully. Then, write the type of informational/factual text it
uses: Sequence, Description, Problem and Solution, Cause and Effect, or Compare and
Contrast.

Activity 1
1. The Philippines is an archipelago with more than 7,000 islands. It has beautiful beaches,
tall mountains, and rich forests that are home to many unique animals.

2. First, wash your hands properly. Next, gather the ingredients. Then, mix the flour, sugar,
and eggs. Finally, put the mixture in the oven to bake.

3. Both dogs and cats are popular pets. Dogs are often playful and loyal, while cats are quiet
and independent. However, both bring joy to their owners.

4. Many students in the barangay have difficulty attending school because they live far
away. To solve this, the local government provided free bicycles for them to use.

5. When a strong typhoon hit the region, many houses were destroyed. As a result,
hundreds of families stayed in evacuation centers.

6. The giant panda has black and white fur. It eats mainly bamboo and lives in the
mountains of China. Pandas are gentle animals but are now endangered.

7. To plant corn, first prepare the soil. Next, place the seeds in rows. After that, water them
regularly. Finally, harvest the corn when the stalks are tall and yellow.

8. Cell phones and tablets are both electronic devices. They can connect to the internet and
allow us to communicate. However, tablets have larger screens, while cell phones are easier
to carry.

9. Air pollution is a growing problem in big cities. One way to help reduce it is by using
bicycles or electric vehicles instead of cars with gasoline.

10. Because of illegal fishing, coral reefs are being destroyed. This leads to fewer fish in the
sea and affects the livelihood of many fishermen.

Activity 2
1. Bananas grow well in tropical countries. They are yellow when ripe, soft inside, and a
favorite snack for many people.

2. First, open the book to the table of contents. Next, look for the page number of the lesson.
Then, turn to that page. Finally, begin reading.
3. Hurricanes and tornadoes are both strong storms. Hurricanes form over the ocean and
last for days, while tornadoes form over land and last for minutes.

4. The school library had very few books for students. To address this, teachers organized a
book donation drive.

5. Because of too much plastic waste, marine animals like turtles and fish often mistake it
for food, which harms them.

Activity 3
1. The carabao is the national animal of the Philippines. It is strong, helpful in farming, and
has a grayish-black body.

2. To make orange juice, first wash the oranges. Then, cut them in half. Next, squeeze the
juice into a glass. Finally, enjoy your drink.

3. Buses and trains are both used for public transportation. Buses can travel anywhere on
roads, while trains run only on tracks.

4. Many children had difficulty learning online because of poor internet. The community
solved this by setting up a free Wi-Fi zone in the barangay.

5. Because of deforestation, many animals lose their homes. This results in the loss of
biodiversity.

Activity 4
1. Mangoes are sweet, juicy fruits that grow on tall trees. They come in yellow, green, or red
colors.

2. To cook rice, first wash it in water. Next, put it in a pot with water. Then, let it boil. Finally,
wait until it is soft and ready to eat.

3. Basketball and volleyball are both team sports. Basketball uses a hoop, while volleyball
uses a net. Both require teamwork and practice.

4. The river was polluted with garbage. The barangay officials solved this problem by
organizing a clean-up drive with the residents.

5. Because of climate change, the weather has become more unpredictable. This has caused
stronger storms and longer droughts.
