TUTORIAL – 1
1. Resistance of a conductor is 25 Ω at 200C. Its resistance becomes 27.95 Ω when its
temperature is raised by 300C. Find the resistance temperature co- efficient of the
conductor at 200C.
2. Calculate resistivity of wire having 100m length, 200Ω resistance and 1mm diameter.
3. A conductor has a resistance of 15Ω at 35oc and it increases to a value of 16.5Ω when
temperature is 70oC. Determine the resistance at 0oC and α at 35oC.
4. Resistance of two conductors of equal length made of same materials are 25Ω and 49
Ω respectively. Find ratio of their diameters.
5. Calculate the resistance of 1500W, 230V heater.
6. 60W, 110V rating bulb is to be operated on 230V. What value of resistance is to be
connected in series of bulb?
7. A length of wire has a resistance of 1.5 Ω. Find the resistance of another wire of the same
material, twice in length and three times big in cross-sectional area.
8. A 200 W ,230 V lamp is given a supply of 230 V. Calculate the resistance of lamp a.
and the current flowing through it. Also calculate the energy consumption and
cost of energy consumption for the month of November , if the lamp is used for
7 hours daily. The rate per unit is 5 Rs.
9. The resistance of armature conductor of a machine is 1.2 Ω at 270 C. The
resistance of this armature becomes 2.4 Ω, when this machine is run for 5 hours
and the temperature becomes 540 C at that time. Calculate the temperature co-
efficient of this material used for conductor.
10. A copper wire has a resistance of 8 Ω at 40ºC and its increases to a value of 9.5
Ω when temperature is doubled. Determine the resistance at 0º C and α at 40ºC.
11. Calculate resistivity of wire having 100m length, 200Ω resistance and 1mm
diameter.

1. Three resistors of 25Ω, 48Ω & 52Ω are connected in parallel, which draw a current of 4A
from the battery. Calculate (i) battery voltage, (ii) current flowing through each resistors.
2. Three equal resistances having a value of 15 Ω are connected in parallel across a 20 V
battery. Find equivalent resistance and current.
3. Resistors of 12 Ω and 8 Ω are connected in parallel and a resistance of R Ω is
connected in series with it. When a 20V DC supply is given to this combination, 70W
power is dissipated. Find value of R.
4. 1 Ω, 5 Ω and 7 Ω resistors are connected in parallel. If total current flowing through
them is 20A. Calculate the current draw by each resistor.
5. Two bulbs A and B are connected in series. A is 100W, 200V bulb and B is 100W,
250V bulb. They are connected across a 250V supply. Calculate (i) circuit current (ii)
voltage across each bulb assuming the bulb resistance to remain unchanged.
6. Find the current flowing from each branch in network shown in figure 1 using
Maxwell’s loop method.

7. A resistance R is connected in series with a parallel combination of two resistances of
12 Ω and 8 Ω. Calculate R if the total power dissipated in the circuit is 70 watt when
the applied voltage is 20 volt.
8. Three parallel connected resistances of 20 Ω, 20 Ω and 10 Ω are given a supply of 30
V. Calculate the current flowing in the circuit.
9. Four resistances having values of 8 Ω , 12 Ω, 16 Ω and 24 Ω are connected in series
and given a supply of 240V. Calculate the equivalent resistance of circuit, current
flowing through circuit, voltage drop across each resistances and power consumption
of the circuit.
10. Three resistors 1Ω, 2 Ω & 3 Ω are connected in series across a 24V battery. Find
equivalent resistance and current.
11. Calculate the current supplied by battery B1 of fig. 2 using Maxwell loop
current method.
12. Using Nodal voltage analysis, determine the currents supplied by each battery of fig. 4
