1. Windows Basics

Anatomy of Windows
The main components of the Windows interface include:
1. Desktop – Main screen area with icons, files, and folders.
2. Taskbar – Contains Start button, open programs, and system tray.
3. Start Menu – Access to apps, settings, and power options.
4. Icons – Represent files, folders, or shortcuts.
5. Windows (Application Windows) – Areas where programs run.
6. Notification Area – Displays system icons.
7. Title Bar – Shows the name of the window and window control buttons.

Taskbar Settings
To customize the Taskbar:
1. Right-click an empty space on the Taskbar → Taskbar settings.
2. Lock/Unlock Taskbar, change location, combine buttons, customize notification area,
auto-hide.

Managing Folders and Files


• Create Folder: Right-click → New → Folder.
• Rename: Right-click → Rename.
• Delete: Select and press Delete.
• Copy: Right-click → Copy → Paste.
• Move: Right-click → Cut → Paste.

Searching Files and Folders


1. Click Search box or press Windows + S.
2. Type part of file/folder name.
3. Filter results by Documents, Pictures, Apps, or Folders.

Customizing Windows
• Change wallpaper: Right-click Desktop → Personalize.
• Change theme, resolution, cursor, sounds, colors from Personalization or Control Panel.

Recycle Bin
Temporarily stores deleted files. Allows restore or permanent delete.

Introduction to Word Processing

Opening, Creating, Saving, Printing, and Closing Documents


• Open: File → Open (Ctrl + O).
• Create: File → New (Ctrl + N).
• Save: File → Save (Ctrl + S) or Save As.
• Print: File → Print (Ctrl + P).
• Close: File → Close or click X.

Using the Interface


• Menu Bar – File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools.
