Geometry Class Notes

1. Angles
• Acute Angle: Less than 90°
• Right Angle: Exactly 90°
• Obtuse Angle: Between 90° and 180°
• Straight Angle: Exactly 180°
• Reflex Angle: Between 180° and 360°

2. Triangles
• Types: Equilateral, Isosceles, Scalene, Right-angled
• Angle Sum Property: Sum of angles = 180°
• Area formulas:
- Right triangle: ½ × base × height
- General triangle (Heron’s Formula): √[s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)] where s = (a+b+c)/2

3. Quadrilaterals
• Square: All sides equal, all angles 90°
• Rectangle: Opposite sides equal, all angles 90°
• Parallelogram: Opposite sides parallel & equal
• Rhombus: All sides equal, diagonals bisect at 90°
• Trapezium: One pair of parallel sides

4. Circles
• Radius (r): Distance from center to circumference
• Diameter (d): 2r
• Circumference: 2πr
• Area: πr²

5. Perimeter & Area Formulas

Shape Perimeter Area
Square 4a a²
Rectangle 2(l+w) l×w
Triangle a+b+c ½ × base × height
Circle 2πr πr²
Parallelogram 2(a+b) base × height

6. Practice Questions
Q1. Find the area of a rectangle with length 12 cm and width 5 cm.
Q2. A circle has radius 7 cm. Find its circumference.
Q3. Find the perimeter of a square with side 8 cm.
Q4. A triangle has sides 6 cm, 8 cm, and 10 cm. Find its area using Heron’s Formula.
Q5. Find the area of a parallelogram with base 10 cm and height 6 cm.

7. Answers
A1. Area = 12 × 5 = 60 cm²
A2. Circumference = 2πr = 2 × 3.14 × 7 = 43.96 cm
A3. Perimeter = 4 × 8 = 32 cm
A4. s = (6+8+10)/2 = 12 → Area = √[12(12-6)(12-8)(12-10)] = √(12×6×4×2) = √576 = 24 cm²
A5. Area = base × height = 10 × 6 = 60 cm²
