PLANT BREEDING AND GENETICS INTERVENTIONS

1. What are the varieties/ hybrids cultivated in different crops? Mention them with an area
of cultivation and seed source.
2. Are the varieties/ hybrids susceptible to biotic and abiotic stresses? If so what are they?
How do they overcome the stress in crop plants? Discuss crop protection management
with respect to new resistant cultivars.
3. Is the farmer is cultivating landraces? If so is it organic or inorganic?
4. How the farmers are familiar with the new varieties and hybrids?
5. Please assess the level of understanding between variety and Hybrids.
6. What is the seed source? a. Farmers seeds b. Own seeds c. Other sources
7. Whether the farmer is involved in seed production of landraces/varieties/ hybrids? If so,
list out the crops.
8. Discuss the development of new varieties and hybrids and the role of plant breeders and
other agricultural scientists involved in that important task in agriculture.
9. Discuss the traits has to be improved in different crops other than yield.
10. Discuss the importance of farmer’s variety and PPV & FRA.
11. Discuss about the farmers participatory plant breeding activities.
12. List out any traditional varieties of any crop grown by the farmers and collect the details
of it.
13. Why the particular variety is preferred/ non-preference over the other? Any specific
reason?
14. Is there any plant genetic resource is available with the farmers? If so, how they are
maintaining?
15. What are all the problems faced by the farmers with respect to seed material?
