II. PRONUNCIATION OF S, ES
Từ có hậu tố “- s, -es” được phát âm theo 3 cách như sau:
+ Từ kết thúc bằng phụ âm vô thanh (unvoiced): /θ/ (-th), /k/ (-k, -ke), /p/ (-p, -pe), /f/ (-gh, -ph, -
f), /t/ (-t, -te) đọc là /s/ - (mẹo: thôi không phải fí tiền)
+ Từ kết thúc bằng các phụ âm gió /s/ (-x, -s, -ss, -ce, -se), /tʃ/ (-ch), /ʃ/ (-sh), /z/ (-se) /ʒ/, /dʒ/ (-
ge) đọc là /ɪz/
+ Từ kết thúc bằng âm phụ hữu thanh (voiced) /b/, /d/, /g/, /v/, /ð/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ, /l/, /r/ hoặc
nguyên âm(vowels) (a, e, i, o, u) đọc là /z/
