Narrator’s Script: Boardroom Drama – E-Commerce

Disruption

🎤 [Narrator enters the stage or stands at the side podium]

Narrator

Good morning everyone, and welcome to a very special session of Boardroom Drama,
brought to you by the Grade 11 Business Studies students of EuroSchool,
North Campus.

Today, you will witness a simulated corporate board meeting that reflects the challenges
modern businesses face in a fast-changing environment.

The theme for today’s boardroom discussion is:

🎯 “E-Commerce Disruption: The Crossroads of Tradition and Technology”

Let me set the context for you.

Our featured company, Retail Nova Pvt. Ltd., is a well-established retail chain with 50
physical stores across India, specializing in fashion and accessories. For years, they’ve served
loyal customers through their in-store shopping experience.

However, times are changing.

With the rapid growth of e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra, the
company has seen a 35% drop in footfall in the past six months. Customers are now leaning
towards the comfort, variety, and discounts of online shopping.

In this scenario, Retail Nova’s leadership team has come together for an urgent board
meeting to decide whether the company should transition into e-commerce — and if so,
how?

Now, let me introduce the key board members who will drive this high-stakes decision-
making process:

(Pause and gesture as each member steps forward or is seated)

🧑‍💼 Mr. Anhad Kalia, the CEO, who will chair today’s meeting and lead the company
through this transformation.

📊 Ms. Avni Singhal, the Chief Financial Officer, who will share insights on the financial
implications of shifting to a digital model.

🎯 Ms Krisha, the Marketing Head, the Marketing [Link] brings consumer trends and
branding strategies to the table.

👩‍💼 Ms. Aditi Singh, the Head of Human Resources, who will speak about employee
welfare and reskilling in this digital age.

🌱 Mr Nakshatra, the CSR Head, who will ensure the company’s social responsibilities are
not left behind in the race for profits.

⚖️Ms. Yahavi Bhatt, the Legal Advisor, who will shed light on the legal compliances and
cyber regulations associated with e-commerce.

🤝 Mr. Agasthya/Joe, the Union Leader and Employee Representative, who will voice the
concerns and aspirations of the staff and frontline workers.

So, without further delay, let’s step into the Retail Nova boardroom, where critical
decisions await.

Will tradition make way for transformation?

Will physical retail evolve or be replaced?

Let’s find out.

(Pauses)

Over to you, Mr. CEO.

🧑‍💼 Roles & Dialogue Prompts

1. CEO (Chairperson – Anhad Kalia)(Make a presentation on the theme)

(Welcoming tone)
“Good morning, everyone. We are here to discuss the most pressing issue facing RetailNova
today — our declining sales in the face of rising e-commerce competition. The data is
alarming. Footfall in our physical stores has dropped by 35% in the last 6 months.
We must decide: Should Retail Nova go online? And if yes, how do we do it while preserving
our brand and customer trust? Let’s begin with the CFO.”

2. CFO (Avni Singhal)

(Analytical tone)
“Thank you, Arjun. From a financial perspective, maintaining physical stores is becoming
increasingly expensive. Rent, utilities, and manpower are major costs.
Investing in a basic e-commerce platform and logistics can reduce overhead in the long term.
I suggest we start with an omnichannel model—keep the top-performing stores open and
simultaneously build our online presence.
Initial cost for setting up the website and logistics is ₹2.5 crores, but break-even could be
achieved within 18–24 months.”

3. Marketing Head

(Strategic tone)
“I, as marketing head, completely support the move to e-commerce. Today’s customers
demand convenience and personalized experiences.
We can use digital marketing, influencer campaigns, and flash sales to drive engagement.
However, we must maintain brand identity and not compete purely on price like marketplaces
do. Let’s launch our own app and integrate customer loyalty programs for retention.” Let’s
have the opinion of others also.

4. HR Head

“While going digital makes sense, we must not forget the 300 employees who run our
physical stores.
We should plan reskilling programs to train retail staff for roles in digital customer service,
warehouse management, and online sales.
A transparent communication plan will help maintain morale during the transition.”

5. CSR Head

(Balanced tone)
“Our physical stores also support local artisans and tailors. If we go online, we should
continue to promote handmade, sustainable collections and include a ‘Meet the Maker’
section on our website.
Let’s ensure our shift to e-commerce is responsible and inclusive.”
6. Legal Advisor

(Cautious tone)
“There are several compliance issues with e-commerce — GST, data privacy, cyber security,
and returns policy.
We’ll need to consult with cyber law experts and ensure our terms and conditions are clear.
Also, we should register for e-commerce-specific licenses.”

7. Union Leader / Employee Rep

(Emotional but respectful tone)

“Sir, ma’am, many of us have worked with RetailNova for over a decade. We understand the
change, but we request clarity and fairness.
Please ensure no mass layoffs. Reskill us, give us a chance to adapt, and keep communication
open.”

8. CEO(Anhad Kalia) – Concluding Remarks

(Summarizing tone)
“Thank you, everyone, for your valuable inputs. Based on this discussion, here’s what we’ll
do:

 Begin work on building our e-commerce platform with a six-month launch goal.
 Retain top 15 stores as brand hubs.
 Launch employee reskilling from next month.
 Form a legal & compliance team.
Let’s turn this disruption into an opportunity. Meeting adjourned.”

Saanvi – Conclusion

This simulated boardroom discussion helped us understand that business is not just about
profits — it’s about adapting, innovating, and staying ethical in the face of change.

We hope this Boardroom Drama gave you a glimpse into the dynamic world of corporate
decision-making, where every voice matters and every choice shapes the future.

On behalf of the Grade 11 Business Studies students of EuroSchool, North Campus, we

thank you for being a part of this experience.
