Santosh Nirash:
Santosh Nirash, was the first woman journalist of Sikkim. She fearlessly pursued her passion for
writing and reporting.
Despite being told that women journalists couldn’t cover dangerous events, she persisted. When
former Prime Minister Morarji Desai visited Nathu La pass, she fought to be allowed to cover
the event. Her question was, “Why cannot women take on risky reporting assignments?”.
Santosh Nirash also started Sikkim’s first English monthly magazine, Broader News and Views,
