Environment Analysis
Environmental analysis is a vital tool for businesses looking to stay ahead of the
competition, identify market opportunities and plan for the future. It involves taking a deep
dive into factors such as the economic environment, competition, customer preferences, and
technological advances - all of which significantly impact business performance. This paper
will explore environmental analysis and why it's so important. We'll also look at how you can
use it to make informed decisions about your business.
SWOT Analysis on coca cola company
A SWOT analysis is a research tool used to evaluate a company's strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. A researcher must have a thorough understanding of
the company and industry to accurately assess the impact of each factor on the company's
future viability. The following is a SWOT analysis of the Coca-Cola Company.
Strengths:
4
-Well-known and respected brand name
-Diverse product portfolio, including sparkling beverages, water, sports drinks, and
juices
-Global reach with operations in over 200 countries
-Strong financial performance with consistently high revenue and profit margins
Weaknesses:
-High dependence on carbonated soft drink sales, which are declining in popularity in
developed markets
-Lack of solid presence in the growing health & wellness category
-Increasing competition from rival beverage companies
Opportunities:
-Continued growth in emerging markets where per capita soda consumption is low
-Acquisition or partnership opportunities with companies in adjacent categories, such
as coffee, tea, or healthy snacks
-Launch of new products or packaging formats to appeal to changing consumer
preferences
Threats:
5
-Stringent regulation of sugary drinks due to obesity concerns
-Increased taxes on sugary drinks
-Sustainability concerns regarding the use of plastic bottles.
The Coca-Cola Company has been under fire recently for its environmental practices.
In particular, they have been criticized for using water resources and polluting water sources
with their waste products. A new study by the World Wildlife Fund has found that Coca-Cola
is the world's top user of freshwater resources, using an estimated 300 billion liters of water
each year (Brownlee, Dmytriyev & Elias, 2017). The company is also the world's leading
producer of plastic waste, producing over 3 million tons each year. While Coca-Cola has
taken some steps to improve its environmental practices, such as increasing its use of recycled
materials, the WWF's analysis shows that much more must be done if the company is to meet
its sustainability goals. The results of this study concern and highlight the need for Coca-Cola
to take further action to reduce its environmental impact. The company should focus on
reducing its use of water resources and increasing its recycling efforts while also investing in
new technologies that can help minimize plastic waste. Additionally, Coca-Cola should raise
public awareness of its sustainability goals and actions to demonstrate its commitment to
change.
Coca-cola company's competitive position within the industry is based on several
factors, including its scale, brand equity, and global reach. However, the company faces
several challenges that could impact its competitive position. The first challenge is the
declining demand for carbonated soft drinks. In recent years, health-conscious consumers
6
have been reducing their consumption of sugary beverages, opting for water or other healthier
options. This trend has had a negative impact on Coca-Cola's sales, as evidenced by the fact
that the company's volume growth has been declining for several years (Garcia, & Proffitt,
2021). Another challenge facing the company is increased competition from other beverage
manufacturers. In particular, PepsiCo has been aggressively marketing its line of carbonated
and non-carbonated beverages to gain market share from Coca-Cola. This increased
competition has put pressure on Coca-Cola’s profitability and market share.
Finally, the company faces challenges related to its bottling operations. Several
bottling companies have merged or been acquired in recent years, making it more difficult for
Coca-Cola to maintain control over its supply chain and distribution network. This has led to
higher costs and reduced efficiency. The declining demand for carbonated soft drinks,
increased competition from other beverage manufacturers, and bottling challenges impact
Coca-Cola's competitive position within the industry (Muris, Scheffman & Spiller, 1992).
The company must address these issues to remain competitive and continue to grow in the
years ahead.
Conclusion
After conducting an environmental analysis, it is essential to conclude the collected
data. Based on the data collected during the environment analysis, it is recommended that the
company take the following actions:
- Develop policies and procedures related to environmental issues, such as waste
management and energy conservation.
7
- Conduct regular training sessions for employees on environmental topics.
- Monitor environmental conditions inside and outside the workplace and take
corrective action when necessary.
