Screen resolutions are extremely important for photographers, computer displays, phone displays and
more. What it means is “Screen resolution refers to the clarity of the text and images displayed on your
screen. At higher resolutions, such as 1600 x 1200 pixels, items appear sharper. They also appear smaller
so more items can fit on the screen. At lower resolutions, such as 800 x 600 pixels, fewer items fit on the
screen, but they appear larger” ([Link] webpage). By changing the size of the number
of pixels that are on a screen, well, that means you either can have more or less on a page and are going
to show that they are either very nice and crisp and sharp or a little bit on the less-focused area.

Frame rate is that which “is the number of individual video frames displayed per second” ([Link],
pg 173). By increasing the number of frames per second, the video will easy to view without a
choppiness to it. By slowing the number of frames to 15 or less, it can benefit the video that is being
made by the producer in making a silly slapstick type of video with a Charlie Chaplin style of comedy.
Codec is a program that is made to compress and then decompress types of digital media ([Link],
pg 294), The data that needs to be compressed or decompressed is the video. “Large display sizes and
higher frame rates require more processing and greater bandwidth. This in turn often demands greater
compression” ([Link], pg 173). Keeping the size of the file at a smaller size would allow the end-
user to be able to view the video easier than if it was a larger file requiring more time to process.
Output resolution is when: “The screen resolution that matches the capabilities of the output medium. A
developer can reduce the output resolution of a video window to improve the color and motion of the
video as it is displayed on less powerful computers or lower-bandwidth networks” ([Link], pg 310).
The best thing for a producer to use a smaller screen resolution would be to reduce the resolution to
match up with the medium that is being used in the end. ([Link], pg 173) This would allow other
mediums such as cell phones and other devices that could be used to access the video and enjoy it.
Interframe compression (MPEG) is “A form of digital video compression that eliminates some frames
completely, saving only the changes between them” ([Link], pg 303), With interframe
compression, you can eliminate a couple of frames that are redundant, meaning that there is nothing
that changed from one frame to another. It seems to save space rather than utilize redundant frames to
run.
If one is utilizing 15 frames per second shoot when videoing a subject, this is not going to be fast enough
to catch a smooth video. By utilizing a higher FPS (Frame rate per second) it will give the viewer a
smoother view. On the other hand, by using the 15 FPS, you will get a bumpy version that reflects a
video from Charlie Chaplin’s era. When utilizing a faster FPS, you get a better quality of smooth video
showing more detail and ease in viewing the video itself. So, if you are aiming for a Charlie Chaplin style
video, then the 15 FPS is just right. If you are aiming for a regular, smooth video then you want to go for
about 24 – 30 FPS to give you a nice smooth speed.
