1. An electric heater of resistance 20 Ω is operated on 220 V supply.

Find the heat


produced in 5 minutes.
2. A 100 W bulb is used for 10 hours daily. Calculate the heat produced in one day.
3. A current of 5 A flows through a conductor of resistance 10 Ω for 30 seconds. Find
the heat generated.
4. An electric iron of resistance 50 Ω is connected to a 220 V supply. Find the heat
produced in 30 minutes.
5. A fuse wire is rated for 5 A. If it is to be used on a 220 V line, calculate the maximum
power it can safely operate.

6. Two resistors of 6 Ω and 12 Ω are connected in series with a 12 V battery. Find the
current in the circuit.
7. Two resistors of 8 Ω and 12 Ω are connected in parallel to a 24 V source. Find the
total resistance and current drawn.
8. Find the equivalent resistance when four 10 Ω resistors are connected in:
(a) series,
(b) parallel.
9. Three resistors of 3 Ω, 6 Ω and 9 Ω are connected in parallel. Find their equivalent
resistance.
10. A wire of resistance 16 Ω is cut into 4 equal parts. These parts are then connected in
parallel. Find the equivalent resistance.

11. An electric bulb is rated 220 V, 100 W. Calculate the resistance of the bulb.
12. Two electric lamps of 100 W, 220 V each are connected in series across a 220 V
supply. Find the power consumed.
13. An electric motor takes 5 A from a 220 V line. Determine the power of the motor.
14. A geyser rated 2000 W, 220 V is operated for 2 hours daily. Calculate the energy
consumed in one day in kWh.
15. A fan is marked 60 W, 220 V. Find the current drawn by the fan and the resistance of
its coil.
16. Three resistors of 9 Ω, 12 Ω, and 36 Ω are connected to a battery of 12 V. The student wants
to get a current of exactly 2 A from the battery. Suggest the possible arrangement of
resistors.
17. Three resistors of 4 Ω, 6 Ω, and 12 Ω are to be arranged so that the total resistance of the
circuit is 3 Ω. Draw the arrangement and calculate the equivalent resistance.
18. You are given three resistors of 5 Ω each.
How will you connect them to get an equivalent resistance of:
(a) 15 Ω
(b) 5/3 Ω
(c) 7.5 Ω
