A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN TVL – IA 12 (CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS)

WEEK 4
(JULY 14 – JULY 18, 2025)

I. OBECTIVES

At the end the lesson the learners should be able to:

a. Understand and read a masonry work plan
b. Execute safety measures, materials and tools that involved in masonry projects
c. Value the importance of work plan

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Work plan in masonry
b. References: TR in Masonry NCI and curriculum guide
c. Teaching Aids: Board, modules and worksheet

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation
Before we start our lesson, let’s have an
activity. Let’s do it together?

Are you excited?

I’ll show you a picture and tell me what can

you say about it.

Do you understand? Yes, Ma’am.

I will give you a minute to analyze the

picture.
What can you say about the picture?
Yes? ______________ It is a work plan Ma’am.

Good! What else can you say about the

picture?
Yes? _______________ It shows how we may perform the job in our
field.
Very good! As you can see it have many
hands that show working together or had
one goal.

C. Lesson Proper

Based on our activity what do you think is

our topic for today?
Yes? ______________ I think Ma’am our topic for today is about
planning in our work.
Very good! Our lesson for today is about
working plan.

A masonry working plan outlines the steps

for a construction project involving bricks,
stones, or other masonry units. It includes
tasks like material and tool identification,
measurements, calculations, safety
procedures, and interpreting technical
drawings. This plan ensures efficient and
safe execution of masonry work.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1. Planning and Preparation:

Identify Materials and Tools: This involves

determining the specific materials (bricks,
stones, mortar, etc.) and tools (trowels,
levels, measuring tapes, etc.) needed for the
project.

Procure Materials and Tools: Order or

acquire the necessary materials and tools.

Receive and Inspect Materials: Ensure

materials are as specified and undamaged
before use.

Perform Mensuration and Calculations:

Take accurate measurements and perform
necessary calculations for material
quantities and layout.

Maintain Tools and Equipment: Ensure tools

are in good working condition and properly
stored.

Understand Specifications and Manuals:

Study relevant technical drawings,
specifications, and manuals to ensure correct
execution.

First row please read the next slides. 2. Execution:

Establish Structure Location:
Use the technical drawings to accurately mark
out the location of the structure.
Lay the Masonry:
Follow the plan to lay bricks or other masonry
units, ensuring proper alignment and bonding.
Apply Mortar:
Use mortar to bind the masonry units,
ensuring proper jointing and filling.
Finish the Structure:
Apply any necessary finishing touches, such
as pointing the mortar joints or applying a
protective coating.
Maintain Safety Procedures:
Follow all safety precautions, including
wearing appropriate personal protective
equipment (PPE).
3. Quality Control and Completion:
Inspect Work: Regularly inspect the work to
ensure it meets quality standards.
Make Adjustments: Make necessary
adjustments to correct any errors or deviations
from the plan.
Complete the Structure: Ensure the structure
is completed according to the plan and
specifications.
Key aspects to consider in a masonry working
plan:
Types of Masonry:
The plan will vary depending on the type of
masonry being used (e.g., brick, stone,
concrete block).

Please read second row the next slides. Project Complexity:

A simple wall will have a different plan than a
complex structure with arches or decorative
elements.
Safety:
The plan should prioritize safety, including
proper use of tools, working at heights, and
handling materials.
Cost Estimation:
The plan may include estimating the cost of
materials, labor, and other expenses.
Scheduling:
The plan should outline a timeline for each
stage of the project to ensure timely
completion.

Interpret information to establish setting out

requirements

Setting out requirements involves

interpreting construction plans and
translating them into physical marks on the
ground to guide construction. This process
ensures that the building is constructed
according to the approved design,
preventing errors and potential legal issues.
Here's a breakdown of the process:
1. Understanding the Design:
Reviewing Plans:
The first step is to carefully review the
architectural and engineering plans,
including layout plans, sections, and
elevations.
Identifying Key Points:
Locate and understand the positions of key
points, such as corners, walls, columns, and
other structural elements.
Verifying Dimensions and Levels:
Ensure the dimensions and levels of these
points are accurately noted and understood.
2. Establishing Control Points:
Horizontal and Vertical Control:
Set up control points (e.g., reference grids,
baselines) to establish a framework for
setting out.
Using Surveying Instruments:
Employ instruments like levels, theodolites,
and total stations to accurately transfer
points from the plans to the site.
Marking Points:
Use stakes, pegs, or other markers to clearly
indicate the positions of control points and
key features.
3. Transferring Dimensions and Levels:
Baseline Method: Use a baseline as a
reference line to measure offsets for other
points.
Grid Method: Create a grid system to define
the positions of elements on the site.
Offset Method: Measure offsets from
established lines or points to locate other
features.
Radiation Method: Use angles and distances
from a known point to locate other points.
4. Precision and Accuracy:
Minimizing Errors:
Strive for accuracy in all measurements and
calculations to prevent errors that could
affect the building's structural integrity.
Rework Prevention:
Accurate setting out minimizes the need for
rework, saving time and resources.
Legal Compliance:
Ensuring precise setting out helps avoid
boundary disputes and other legal issues.

Third row please read the next slides.

5. Setting Out for Different Elements:
Building Outline: Accurately mark the
building's perimeter and foundation positions.
Trench Excavations: Precisely mark the
locations of trenches for foundations, utilities,
and other underground elements.
Structural Elements: Transfer the positions of
columns, walls, and other structural
components to the ground.
By carefully interpreting the information on
construction plans and using appropriate
techniques, setting out ensures that the
building is constructed according to the
design, leading to a successful and compliant
project.

(Learners perform the activity)

What are collaboration skills (and why do
they matter)? It is tiring yet exciting Ma’am because we can
practice our attitude to be in team.

It is tiring Ma’am because we need to think

critically on what really shows in the picture.
After thinking we o brainstorming and

D. Application
Now for your next activity, I will group you
into two groups. Each group will do
brainstorming according to the image that
will gave to them.
Instruction: Your task is to brainstorming
and collaborate to your team. Explain what
do you see in the picture and tell about it,
your conclusion.

Group 2

I will give you fifteen minutes to do the

task.

1. How do you find your activity?

2. Why it is tiring and yet exciting?

3. How do you improve your skills in

working in a team and environment?
