GoodRunss Press Release
June 2025
Atlanta, GA - June 2025 –
Anthony R. Edwards, an MBA candidate at Carnegie Mellon University, Swartz
Fellow, Consortium Fellow, and Morehouse graduate is emerging as a standout
Black tech founder while spending his summer interning in healthcare investment
banking at Truist.
Anthony is the founder of GoodRunss, an AI-powered sports tech startup described
as the "operating system for recreational sports." The platform, called the PlayGrid,
uses real-time data to help players discover active games at local courts and
provides recreation facilities with AI dashboards to manage traffic, player
engagement, and programming, all through a streamlined interface.
Despite working full-time in investment banking, Anthony is actively scaling
GoodRunss across public parks, recreation centers, and youth leagues in both
Atlanta and Pittsburgh.
"Rec sports are broken. Courts are either overcrowded or completely empty.
Facilities are flying blind, and players are tired of showing up to vacant gyms," said
Edwards. "We're syncing the real world of play so every athlete knows where to go,
and every facility knows how to operate smarter."
Early Traction
- First Facility Launch: Kingsley Association in Pittsburgh is now live with 800 to
900 daily members using the app.
- First League Partner: Marietta Basketball Association in Atlanta is using
GoodRunss for player check-ins and game statistics.
- Pilot Program: Greater Atlanta Christian is piloting a custom dashboard for game
management.
- Funding: Backed by Carnegie Mellon's Swartz Center and the Sandbox Fund.
- Recognition: Finalist in the McGinnis Venture Competition, Carnegie Mellon's
premier startup competition.
- Demo Day: Selected by AI Venture Studios to pitch to over 40 investors and
advisors.
A Founder with Range
Prior to founding GoodRunss, Anthony gained experience in private equity and at
Microsoft in financial technology. He also contributed to bringing a consumer
product to Walmart's national shelves. As a Black founder from Morehouse now
thriving in the Carnegie Mellon ecosystem, Anthony credits his engineering mentors
and the Swartz Center for helping transform his vision into a fully functional AI
product.
"I built GoodRunss for pickup players, public parks, and youth leagues-communities
that deserve better technology and infrastructure. That's who we're building this
platform for."
What’s Next
GoodRunss is continuing to launch courts city by city, beginning with Pittsburgh and
Atlanta. A major fall expansion is planned for New York City, targeting top public
parks, student campuses, and youth sports leagues. The company also plans to raise
a pre-seed round later this year, aiming to become the go-to infrastructure for
recreational sports nationwide.
