Health Unit: Substance Use and Abuse 2017
Teacher: Kyle McCready Class: ____ Date:_________
Description: You will be responsible for creating a
brochure about a drug of your choice from the list below.
Individually, or in groups of three, you will research your
topic and create a visually appealing brochure. It is
intended for your classmates and community members to
get a better understanding about substance abuse, and to
prevent them from becoming involved in it.
Criteria
Your brochure should include the following elements:
A clear title of the drug you researched
Indicate which category the drug belongs
The short-term and long-term effects
How it’s consumed
Some community resources available to help those in
need
Three different sources of research should be listed
(see below for some resources that will get you
started).
*A successful brochure will go above and beyond the
required criteria. Use your creativity and imagination to
create a visually appealing layout that grabs and holds the
attention of the reader. Your brochure should be
informative, but not boring.
Think of presentations you have seen in the past. Too many
words will lose the attention of your audience quickly. While
the information you include is essential, be sure to balance
the use of text and imagery.
a) Choose from the following list of topics (if you would like to research something not
on the list, please get prior approval from Mr. Bojic or Mr. McCready).
Hallucinogens, Depressants, Stimulants, Alcohol, Drinking and Driving, Steroids,
Prescription Drugs, Illegal Drugs, Over the Counter Drugs, Diet Drugs, Caffeine,
Inhalants, Cocaine, Crack, Crystal Meth, Fentanyl, Ecstasy, Heroin, Joints, Kiddie
Coke, LSD, Painkillers, Cannabis, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Opioids, PCP,
LCD, Tobacco, Second Hand Smoke, Smoking
b) For the topic chosen you are asked to:
1) Create a brochure
It has to be work of both your partner and you.

Easy-to-read layout
Written content appropriate for the target reader
