Present Continuos

PRESENT CONTINUOS

1. What is the present continuos?


Is a verb tense which is used to show that an ongoing action is happening now, either at the moment of speech or
now in a larger sense. The present continuous can also be used to show that an action is going to take place in the
near future.
subject+verb to be+ verb-ing+ rest of the sentence
2. When we use the present continuos?
- we use the present continuous for things that are happening at the moment of speaking.
* I am working at the moment. (Estoy trabajando de momento)
* Paco is sleeping. (Paco está durmiendo)
- We can also use this tense for other kinds of temporary situations, even if the action isn't happening at this
moment. (nosotros también podemos usar este tiempo verbal para otro tipo de situaciones temporales, incluso si la
acción no sucede en el momento)
*I'm reading a really great book. (Estoy leyendo un libro muy bueno)
*She's staying with her friend in the beach during a week. (Ella está con sus amigos en la playa durante una semana)
-For temporary or new habits We often use this with expressions like 'these days' or 'at the moment'.
*He's eating a lot these days. (El está comiendo mucho estos días)
* You're smoking too much. (Tu estás fumando mucho)
- Another present continuous use is for habits that are not regular, but that happen very often. In this case we
usually use an adverb like 'always', 'forever' or 'constantly'. Often, we use the present continuous in this way to
talk about an annoying habit.
* You're constantly losing your keys! (Tú estás constantemente perdiendo tus llaves)
*Lucy is always smiling! (Lucy está siempre sonriendo)
3. We can use the present continous for talk about the future
- for definite future arrangements (with a future time word). In this case we have already made a plan and we are
pretty sure that the event will happen in the future.
*I'm meeting my father tomorrow. (Mañana quedaré con mi padre)
*We're going to the beach at the weekend. (Nosotros iremos a la playa el finde semana)
