Tell me about yourself?
As a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from National University-Laguna, I am
excited to embark on my professional journey and contribute to an organization like your company.
Throughout my academic career, I have developed a strong foundation in financial reporting, analysis,
and auditing that could help an organization make effective economic decisions.
Why do you want to work here? Or why should we hire you?
What I'm looking for is a company that I could add value to, that I could produce a positive return on
investment for. Where I could join a strong team. Is this what your company is looking for?
What is your strength?
My real strength is my ability to truly understand and analyze what your internal and external users
want. I pride myself on my reputation to provide financial quantitative information that is intended to
be useful in making economic decisions. Which I believe is crucial in any business establishment.
What is your weakness?
Well, I tend to be a perfectionist, which sometimes leads me to spend too much time on details,
potentially delaying project completion. So it is something I know I need to work on, and in fact, recently
I am working on setting more realistic deadlines for myself and prioritizing tasks to ensure that I meet
project timelines without compromising quality.
How do you handle stress and pressure? Or describe a challenging situation and how you handled it?
I remember when I was in my freshman year, we were actually being put in a situation of working on a
practice set. It is an individual project, but we can work on collaborating, and we only had 1 week to
complete this. A few days before the deadline was actually our exam, so I had to review and at the same
time finish my practice set. It was stressful and frustrating knowing that I didn't have a lot of time. So I
had to, yes, burn some midnight oil, but at the same time I created a timeline to work on and finish
everything I had supposed to do, and I did it, and at the end I passed it.
What are your career goals?
My career goals are centered around continuous professional development, gaining diverse experience,
and ultimately contributing to the financial success of an organization. I aim to deepen my expertise in
accounting. This credential will not only enhance my technical skills but also increase my credibility in
the field.
What is your ideal work environment?
My ideal work environment is one that fosters collaboration and teamwork, where colleagues feel
comfortable sharing ideas and supporting one another. I thrive in settings where open communication is
encouraged and everyone’s input is valued. I also appreciate having supportive leadership that
empowers employees to take initiative while providing guidance when needed. Opportunities for
professional growth, such as training and mentorship programs, are essential to me, as I am always
looking to develop my skills and advance my career.
What is your salary expectation?
My salary range would depend on my particular role. Hence, I believe at least a minimum of $50,000 a
month would be appropriate, knowing that there is also a severe shortage in accountants nowadays. My
compensation should be enough to cover my professional time and services. However, I am open to
discussing the specifics and other benefits that come with the position.
Tell me about the time when you had to learn something new quickly
During my internship at a selected company, I was assigned to different roles and workloads. As an
inexperienced individual, I had limited knowledge in corporate settings. Given the situation, it was a
responsibility I needed to take a step into and challenge myself to do tasks properly. To handle this, I
began learning the systems of each role I played as quickly as possible and communicating regularly to
my supervisor for guidance. So my performance wouldn't be a hindrance to the whole department. In
the end, I completed my tasks successfully without complacency, and I got the grades that I wanted.
How do you prioritize tasks when you have multiple deadlines?
I assess my tasks based on their urgency and importance. I do create a comprehensive task list in a
calendar. I actually used notion, where I list all the tasks with their deadlines and estimated completion
times to get an overview of my workload. It helps me stay more focused and organized, and I could
manage my time effectively.
Give an example of a time when you worked as part of the team?
In school, whenever there were group activities, or even during my internship, we all ensured the
success of the task. I foster open communication when discussing progress, sharing ideas, and
addressing any concerns to help keep everyone aligned and informed. It leverages my strengths in
collaboration and problem-solving.
What would you do if asked to do the task you’ve never done before?
In my internship, I was assigned to different positions and asked to perform tasks I've never done
before. It was indeed an overwhelming situation, but I approached it with a positive attitude. I began to
see these challenges as an opportunity for growth and learning. I then assessed the task and would look
for resources or tutorials. I also reached out to colleagues or supervisors who have experience with the
task. I asked for advice, tips, or resources that could help me perform the task effectively.
How do you keep up with industry trends and developments?
As a member of generation Z, where digital platforms are widely used in every corner of the world. I
leverage my digital native skills to stay informed about industry trends and developments. As someone
who actively used social media, I could follow the real-time updates and insights and engage with
content that reflected current trends and discussions.
How do you take constructive criticism?
Whenever I receive bad feedback, for instance, during our practical research, I do not take constructive
criticism personally; instead, I view it as a valuable tool for personal and professional growth. That's
why I approach it with an open mind and view it as an opportunity to improve my skills, my work, and
my performance.
Something you particularly proud of?
It is not a project but my current role right now. I am proud that I am still able to graduate from my
desired program despite the failures and I managed to be a CPA. I may not be the best when it comes to
academics, but I always strive to do better every day.
How you measure success in your role?
One of my primary goals is to obtain my CPA title, and now that I am able to pass the LECPA is a
significant milestone in my career. It represents not only my knowledge but also my commitment to the
profession. And as a recent accounting graduate, I measure it through my personal growth, academic
achievements, and engagement in professional opportunities.
How do you approach a situation where your team are not meeting its targets?
During our culminating activity in senior high school, we were grouped by two and had to come up with
a business plan. The goal of the activity was who will earn the most. My partner and I decided to create
a jewelry made of beads and we set a forecast based on the first week experience of how much should
we earn every week. There were situations where we were unable to meet our targets. We approached
it by assessing first the situation and analyzed reasons behind the underperformance. We collaborately
communicating with each other to share our thoughts on what might be hindering our progress. We
realized that setting a more realistic and achievable goals can help align our efforts and would provide a
clear direction. By the end of the activity we overcome those challenges and actually placed 2nd with
the highest income.
Tell me about the time when you had to lead a group to a major change?
To be honest with you, I have not yet experience leading a team through a major change. When I lead I
do not consider myself as the sole driver of the success of the group. I may have the title but I believe
that indeed teamwork makes the dream work. We all have different skills set, abilities and opinions and
delegating tasks based on our strengths and putting it on our goal would be a huge contribution to the
success of the activity.
How do you ensure that your work aligns with the company’s strategic goals?
I would begin by thoroughly understanding the company's mission and vision so I could align it to my
personal goals with the company’s strategic objectives. I would maintain open lines of communication
with my supervisors and team leaders to discuss how my work fits into the larger picture. I believe
working closely with my team is essential to ensure that our collective efforts are aligned with the
company’s objectives. It would not only develop my professional development but at the same time the
achievement of the company's long-term vision.
Describe a time when you identified a significant problem in your work environment and how you
addressed it?
During our research, I noticed that our group were experiencing a multiple revisions and this was about
to lead in a significant delay in completion. What we did to overcome the problem was to analyze the
root-causes of revisions and there we discovered that it was primarily due to lack of standardized
procedures and communication breakdown. As a solution, I suggested that we should follow a
standardized procedure and all necessary information should be included so it would align to everyone's
work. Together as a team we refined and established a more concrete project. We saw a significant
improvement and we able to passed our research project without any more revisions.
How do you balance short term needs with long term goals in your work?
I start by ensuring I have a clear understanding of the company's long-term goals and vision. This helps
me align my daily tasks and priorities with the broader objectives of the organization. Setting a SMART
goals allows me to break down long-term goals into manageable short-term tasks, ensuring that I make
consistent progress while maintaining an open lines of communication with my team and supervisors to
ensure that everyone is aligned on priorities and regular reviewing of the progress would help me
identify areas for improvement and adjust my strategies accordingly to ensure that I stay on track.
What strategies do you use to manage conflicts within your team?
Whenever I face conflicts within team tasks I always foster open communication where everyone can
express their concerns and ideas openly and respectfully. Active listening and open mindness to
different perspectives and avoid making assumptions would seek to understand the root causes of the
conflict. I do encourage constructive discussions calmly and objectively and focus on the problem at
hand, not personalities in order to come up with potential solutions.
