GAMBAS Generic Adaptive Middleware for Behavior-driven

Autonomous Services

 The overall objective of the GAMBAS project is the development of an innovative

and adaptive middleware to enable the privacy-preserving and automated utilization
of behavior-driven services that adapt autonomously to the context of users.
 GAMBAS Middleware Architecture Generic and Efficient Data Acquisition ,
Interoperable and Scalable Data Processing, Automated Privacy protection Adaptive
Middleware for the Internet of Things summarizes the results of the GAMBAS
research project founded by the European Commission under Framework Programme
 Data acquisition, also known as the process of collecting data, relies on specialized
software that quickly captures, processes, and stores information

 GAMBAS Middleware In the following, we describe the different components of the

GAMBAS middleware and detail how they support data acquisition, data distribution
and data integration.
 Figure 1 shows the overall system architecture. Conceptually, a GAMBAS
deployment consists of different systems. The mobile systems of the citizens are
acting as both data sources and data sinks(Data sinks are used to store data for future
use, such as analysis, processing, or retrieval. ). The city systems from different layers
are managing data and providing services to the mobile systems. To do this, they may
rely on information provided by other services as well as data provided by the mobile

systems. Furthermore, they may integrate data from legacy systems and they may be
receiving data from other systems through existing means.
 For example, a transport system might already be collecting information through
sensors deployed in a city or in vehicles. Similarly, it may already have access to
geographic data describing the different roads in the city

SMARTIE( Secure and sMARter ciTIEs data management) IN iot
SMARTIE is an IoT platform that provides a secure and scalable framework for storing,
sharing, and processing large amounts of data for smart city applications. The SMARTIE
architecture is designed to give citizens control over their IoT devices and privacy.
The SMARTIE (Secure and sMARter ciTIEs data management) is an example of an IoT
platform that provides secure and efficient data management for smart cities. The SMARTIE
project's vision is to create a distributed framework for storing, sharing, and processing large
amounts of data for IoT-based applications. The framework is designed to provide end-to-end
security and trust in information delivery while respecting the privacy of data owners.

Characteristics or Features of SMARTIE :

 Scalability SMARTIE's functionality is decentralized and distributed to
provide scalability.
 User privacy SMARTIE's Functional Components give citizens control over
the disclosure of their sensitive data through encryption, decentralized policy-
based access control, and secure device bootstrapping
 Smart city applicationsSMARTIE can be used to develop smart city
applications that are important to the city and its citizens.
For example, SMARTIE can be used to evaluate a city's transportation system by
engaging smartphone users to voluntarily forward important information to the
system.
 SMARTIE can be used toStore, share, and process large amounts of data for smart
city applications
 It operates on heterogeneous network devices and data sources and will also
providing advanced secure information services

Security, Privacy and Trust in IOT Data Platforms for Smart Cities
Or
Governence , Security, and Privacy Issues in IOT

 The trust, privacy, and security are critical to developing sustainable smart cities . As
cities become more connected and data-driven, ensuring the systems’ trust worthiness
and protecting citizens’ privacy and security become increasingly important .

 Smart city technologies can improve the quality of life for citizens, increase
efficiency and sustainability, and drive economic growth. Still, these benefits are only
possible if the systems are designed with trust, privacy, and security in mind.
 Ensuring trust, privacy, and security in future sustainable smart cities is critical
for Several Reasons or Issues or challenges
o First, it promotes citizen confidence and participation in smart city initiatives,
leading to greater acceptance and adoption of new technologies.
o Second, it protects citizen privacy and data, preventing potential abuses or
misuse by third parties.
o Third, it safeguards critical infrastructure and systems from cyber-attacks ,
ensuring the continuity of essential services.
o Fourth, it fosters innovation by enabling secure and responsible data sharing
between the public and private sectors.
o Scalability: The large number of interconnected devices can cause scalability
issues.
o Standards and communication stacks: Traditional security counter measures
may not apply directly to IoT technologies because of the different standards
and communication stacks involved.
o Cyberattacks: Cyberattacks can be launched from remote locations, are
difficult to attribute, and can be inexpensive.
o Finally, it promotes sustainable urban development by improving the
efficiency of resource allocation and reducing waste, resulting in more livable
and resilient cities
To achieve these objectives,
 Trust, privacy, and security are important considerations for the Internet of Things
(IoT) because of the large amount of data generated by IoT devices and
systems. Some ways to ensure trust, privacy, and security in IoT include:
 Authentication and access control Use strong authentication methods like
cryptographic keys or biometric authentication to ensure only authorized users can
access IoT devices.
 Encryption Encrypt data both in transit and at rest to protect it from unauthorized
access.

4|P ag e

 Regular software updatesKeep devices updated with the latest security patches to
address known vulnerabilities.
 Network segmentationSeparate IoT devices into different networks to limit the
impact of security breaches.
 Monitoring and anomaly detectionUse machine learning algorithms to analyze
network traffic patterns and identify suspicious behavior.

Data Aggregation for IoT in Smart Cities
Data collected in smart cities can be aggregated to impact and improve traffic flow, public
safety, and healthcare for citizens. Learn how partnering with Seagate can make this possible.

Cities and towns worldwide are rapidly adopting Internet of Things (IoT) technology for a
variety of applications, including traffic signals, trash management, and public security.
As each individual device generates its own data to be exchanged with and used by other
devices and technologies, the importance of data aggregation for smart city IoT is rapidly
increasing. Effective data aggregation will require cities to invest in data storage and security
solutions for organizing and managing this massive amount of IoT data.
Find out how smart cities can properly implement IoT and data aggregation capabilities to
realize a vision of urban living built on efficiency and sustainability.
Scalability
Data aggregation in IoT enables organisations to handle large volumes of data generated by
numerous connected devices. It ensures scalability, accommodating the increasing demands
of IoT deployments.
improved efficiency
Data aggregation eliminates the need for manual data collection and analysis, saving time and
resources
Integration & interoperability
Aggregating data from diverse IoT devices and platforms promotes interoperability and
seamless integration.

Improved security
Data aggregation can enhance security by centralising data management and implementing
robust security measures. It allows for easier detection of anomalies or potential security
breaches across the entire IoT network.
Real-time monitoring
Aggregating data in real-time enables organisations to monitor their IoT ecosystem in real-
time. This facilitates prompt responses to anomalies, issues, or emerging opportunities.
