Your identity in Christ: how God sees

you

Our culture is very interested in the journey of

discovery of individual identity. personality tests,
dream assessments and even Buzzfeed quizzes are
available everywhere you look. It seems that
Everyone is looking for something that tells them who they are, where
they belong and how they relate to the world.
The Bible says that all men and women are created in
image of God. Humanity was created to reflect some
two attributes of God. You can seek your identity in
any place, but the followers of Jesus are called to
find your identity in Him.

Where do you find your identity?

While our world encourages you to look within yourself

your identity, your natural tendency is to seek your
identity in external things.
One of the first places you may be tempted to
searching is your career. Spending your time and energy
searching for your career may make you feel that you are
a defining characteristic of who you are. After all, a
the work to which you dedicate yourself will probably take the
most of your time and attention.
Jobs and careers are closely tied to others
places where you can research your identity, such as
financial success and status. But it doesn't stop there. It also
we ask for our relationship status, appearance,
notes and reputation to provide a sense of identity.
Any one or all of them may seem solid foundations, but
none of them is permanent. Any of them can change
without prior notice. If you base your identity on things
such as success, wealth, power, physical appearance, and so on.
in front of you, will be preparing for a big disappointment. A
sudden job loss can leave you questioning
your choices in life. A gossip directed at you can
destroy your reputation, even if it is false. Your appearance
will change as you age.
God, however, is unchanging. He is reliable. He is the same.
yesterday, today and always. If you find your identity in Him,
you will never be disappointed because He has proven repeatedly
sometimes be reliable.
It is important, when defining your identity, that God is not
just one aspect of who you are, like "I am a Christian", or
"I am religious" or "I am spiritual." Understanding your
identity in God begins with the understanding of who He is
it's what He says about Himself and what He says about you. Your
identity can be defined by who God is making with
that you be in His image.

How God sees His children

In order to understand your identity as a follower of Christ,
you need to understand how He sees you. It is tempting to build your
identity about what you carry out, but this is not a foundation
stable.
Your true identity is ultimately based on
what God has done for you. In the Bible, God speaks to us
often about how He sees His people. Let's give a
look at what He says about you, if you have received Him as your
Lord and Savior. (Learn to have a personal relationship
with God and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior.

You are loved

In Christ, you are loved. You were created with a

purpose. You are not just a convenient carbon copy
of another person. You were created uniquely and with
intention. God lovingly designed every detail of your
person. Can you imagine the love involved with that
design intricate?

You have been chosen

In Christ, you are not only loved, but chosen. God

sent His own Son to earth to die in his place to
that you could be included in His family.
God was not obliged to choose you based on your
performance or credentials. He chose to implement a plan
intricate that involved the death of His perfect Son,
what allowed you the opportunity to be a child of God.
You are not a mistake. You are chosen and wanted.

You are forgiven

To be considered a child of the perfect Father, you had to be

free from sin – that is, you had to be perfect in what you say
respecting doing the right thing and not doing the wrong one. This is a task
difficult, considering that no one besides Jesus was or is
perfect and no one can achieve perfection on their own
effort.
However, because Jesus, who was without sin, died for
the death you should have on the cross, you can be forgiven
of sin. What you did wrong is not counted against
you, and everything Christ did right is counted for you. This
forgiveness allows you to be considered a child of God.
Therefore, in the eyes of God, if you accepted what Jesus did
for you, you are completely forgiven. From the perspective
You, you have no sin. It's not that you won't sin, but
when He looks at you, He calls you forgiven. This is
something on which you can build your identity.

You are redeemed

What does your forgiveness mean? You are redeemed - that is, the
Christ's sacrifice redeemed him from the power of sin and
of the evil that once possessed and controlled it and made it
delete.
When God looks at you, He does not see a former sinner. He
he does not see you in the light of who you once were. He sees you as
redeemed: a new creation that was made whole.
You do not need to define yourself in light of your past mistakes. God
don't do that. You can walk in someone else's identity that is
made new in Christ.

You are adopted

What does it mean to be considered a child of God? It means that

You were adopted into your family. You are considered a child.
legitimate of the God of the universe, having all rights and
position of Jesus His Son.
God sees you as a beloved child who bears His name. Thus
how earthly adoption is a legally mandatory process
that names him a permanent part of a family, adoption
celestial is equally permanent and mandatory. You are Yours
son, and He will never take this away.

What does the Bible say about identity in Christ

You don't have to take anyone's word for it. In fact,

God wants you to discover for yourself by reading His
Word. It is so important that you go to the Bible to discover the
what He feels for you. Your identity must never be
based on hope or a guess. God gave us His
Word, the Bible, so that you may know Him and understand
Who is He making you to be in Him.
You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but
fellow citizens of the people of God and also members of His
family." (Ephesians 2:19, NVI)
We are members of Your family, not strangers. If you
follow Christ, you belong to the house of God and to His people.
In this passage, Paul is encouraging the followers of
Christ to remind that everyone is part of a family. They
must be unified with each other. This can only
it will happen if you understand that you are a legitimate child of
God. You are part of His family.

God is powerful to bless you abundantly,

so that in all things, at all times,
having everything you need, you are
abundant in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:8, NIV)
As a child of God, you are blessed and provided for. God is
able to provide everything you need in Christ. He is the
Owner of everything and the Giver of all good things.

See what great love the Father has given us, that
we were called children of God! And that is what
we are! The reason why the world does not know us is that
"he did not know him." (1 John 3:1, NIV)

In Christ, you are loved. Your identity is a child of

God. This verse from the Bible comes from a chapter that
warns against the temptation to stray from God to the
sin. You can resist sin by remembering that
God has the best for His children. He offers you more.
than the world ever could. You are complete in Your
love.

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior

who saves. He will take great pleasure in you; in His love,
he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you
with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17, NIV)
Jesus delights in you. You are not just accepted or
tolerated. You are welcomed into His family with pleasure.
When the correction comes, it lasts a short time because the
the goal is to help you reflect the holy character of God with
more precision. He delights so much in you that he is
becoming more and more like Him each day.
"God made sin for us He who knew no sin,"
so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
2 Corinthians 5:21, NIV
You are the justice of God. You are His goodness and justice for
the cause of what Christ did on the cross. This was given to you, and you are
called just by the Lord of the universe.
You can live in the light of the justice that has been given to you. This does not

it only allows you to get closer to God with

trust, but also allows you to be a
ambassador for those around you. Because of your justice
it is not earned, but given freely through faith
in Jesus, you can share this gift with others and
invite them to also be the justice of God.

but now he knows you as a child. You who were
a sinner is now righteous.
You are new because through Jesus your sin has been

God.

You are special to God. You are chosen by Him. This
verse comes from a passage that speaks about how Christ
was rejected by many. But through faith in Jesus through the
power of the Holy Spirit, if you trust in Jesus, you do
part of Your holy and chosen people.

You can get rid of things that are part of your old self,
part of the darkness, such as deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and
slander, because you were brought into a wonderful light.

Obstacles to believing in your identity

Even if you know all these things about where a

a follower of Christ finds their identity, often can
have obstacles in the way of believing in who you are in
Christ. Other sources of identity often get in the way,
like career, appearance or money. But there are other things.
that can distract you as well.
Past sin

Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone has sinned. If you accept the

Christ, God forgives you for these things.

Psalm 103:12 (NIV) says: "As far as the east is from the west"
west, for he has removed our transgressions from
us. Transgression is another word for sin or mistakes. God
remove your sin from you. You will still remember your
sins frequently, and these memories can make
you feel unworthy, preventing you from accepting your true self
identity.

Messages or external experiences

You can not only remember what you did; you also
you can remember what people did to you. Maybe
you have been mistreated or neglected. Perhaps the
people told you negative things about yourself.
The world is broken by sin. There are people who
they suffered indescribable injustices. From gossip to verbal abuses
and physical, external messages are trying to shape your
identity every day. These external messages can
lead him to believe that you are not worthy of what the Bible says
what is true about you in Christ.

False Beliefs
By following Jesus, you will seek to know Him more. You can
do this through the time in the Word, through prayer,
talking with friends or a mentor and meeting with
other believers in worship.
As your understanding of God grows, you may
recognize faulty beliefs that I held before that do not
align with what you are hearing and learning about your
identity now.
Maybe you grew up learning that you can lose your
salvation. Maybe you thought there were certain
behaviors or sins that disqualify you from

differences.

How can you respond?

These obstacles are difficult to navigate. It's easy to believe that
these things are legitimate barriers to following Jesus. But
by the power of the Holy Spirit, you can overcome these
obstacles and fully living in the identity that was given to you
in Jesus.

To repent

The word 'to repent' means that you agree with

God. So, the first thing you can do to
embracing your identity is agreeing with Him who is
believing in things that are no longer true for
you.
Bring the things you are struggling with to
He. Admit that they are hard to overcome. Confess that you
believe in Him when He says that they are no more
true a your respect.

To lament

Many places in the scriptures encourage the believers of Jesus to

lament your sins. Although your sin no longer defines
your identity, you still experience its effects in your
life. Therefore, it is legitimate and even important to lament sin
what prevents you from truly believing in the things that Jesus
say.
You can also lament the sins that have been committed.
against you and everything these wounds have cost you. You
you may lament the effect this had on your relationship
with the Lord.
Paul was one of the leaders of the early church who helped to
write the New Testament of the Bible. In a letter to
a church, which we now know as the biblical book of 1
Thessalonians, he talks about how to mourn the loved ones
dear lost ones. He helps us understand how we can
suffer well.
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep

in death, so that they do not suffer like the rest of humanity,

that does not have hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13, NVI).
In this passage, 'those who sleep in death' refers to
referring to the followers of Jesus who have already passed away. Paul says
What we can regret is that they are no longer here and
still have hope that they live in Jesus
eternity.
The same principle applies to the pain of sin. You can
lament your own sin and the sin of others, knowing
as long as you have hope in Christ. You are a
new creation. You are forgiven and restored in Jesus.

Invite the Lord to change His mind.

After confessing and lamenting these things, you can ask

to God to help him believe in what is true. He is the one who
renew your mind and change your heart.
God is the one who increases your faith and makes you new. Ask Him
to help you believe in the things He says about
you. Ask Him to continue making you the person that
He wants you to be in Jesus.
He is faithful and will do it.

Invite other people to help you

God never wanted you to walk with Jesus alone. He brings

people for your life so that you can encourage each other
to others.
When you are struggling with past sins or
false and discouraging beliefs, share this struggle with
a trusted friend. Invite others to pray for you and
reminding you of the truth can be very beneficial.
A believer who is further along in their faith journey can
provide a grand view for you as you walk
with Jesus. Consider inviting a believing companion to
to guide you in areas that are a struggle for you.
When the followers of Christ carry each other's burdens
others, they not only draw near to the Lord, but
they grow in union with other followers of Christ.

Seeing yourself as God sees you is important

If you put your faith in Jesus, you will have a new

identity in Him. The more you know Jesus through
Your word and time of prayer, you will understand your
identity in Him.
The more you know Jesus, the more you will be able to
identify areas of your life that you are not living in this
identity through the power of the Holy Spirit.

If you believed you were all that God says you are
it is in Christ, how would this change the way you lived,
the way you interact with others or the way
