Scaffolding Calculation Memory

1) The document presents the structural calculations for the assembly of a scaffold supported on a tower, including calculations for strength, load, buckling, and bending. 2) The loads supported by the posts were calculated and it was verified that buckling would not occur. 3) It was also verified that the braces would support the load and that the planks would need support to avoid excessive bending.

3 – Fixed arm strap:
Maximum allowable load (slipping):
Pmax800kg.

Note: This value is presented based on slipping tests carried out at the Center.
Research and Development of Petrobrás (CENPES), with spring steel clamps and forged steel
SAE 1020.

4 - Rotating arm strap:

Maximum allowable load (slip):
Pmax= 400kg.

Note: This value is presented based on slip tests conducted at the Center of
Research and Development of Petrobrás (CENPES), with spring steel clamps and forged steel
SAE 1020.

CALCULATION OF BUCKLING RESISTANCE:

I – APPLIED LOADS:

1 - Own weight of the scaffold:

Quantity of tube x Length of tube = Tube measurement.
Amount of pipe Tube length (Ml) Tube length (Ml)
06 6 36.00
8 4 32.00
4 2 8.00
16 1 16.00

Total 92.00

Weight of the planks = [(Quantity of planks per platform x Length of the plank]
x Platform number per section)] x Weight of 01 board
Weight of the boards = [(6 x 2.00)] = 12.00 m x 6 kg / m Weight of the boards = 72.00 kg.

Weight of the pipes = Σ Pipes x Weight of 1 pipe.

Weight of the pipes = 92.00 x 3.40 kg / m Weight of the tubes = 527.00 kg.

Total weight of fixed clamp = Quantity of clamps x Weight of 1 clamp.

Total weight of the Fixed Bracelets = 51 pieces x 1.24 kg / piece = 63.24 kg.

Total weight of the Mobile Braces = 24 pieces x 1.28 kg / piece 30.72 kg.

Total weight of the Bracelets = 93.96 kg.

Total weight of the scaffold = Σ (Weight of the planks + Weight of the tubes + Weight of the clamps)

Total weight of the scaffold = 72.00 kg + 527.00 kg + 93.64 kg = 692.96 kg.

3
II - WORKLOAD:

Considering 8 men weighing 85kg each + 50kg of tools + 50kg of application material
in 1m resulting in a total of 780.00 kgf/m2.
2

1 – Calculation of the pole loading:

Considering the distributed load on the 4 poles, we have:

The area of influence of tensions on the scaffolding posts involves the upper crossbar that is
leaning on the boarding platform.
Therefore, let's consider a safety factor of 2 for the calculation of the buckling of the tubes in order to
ensure greater safety for the use of this scaffold.
Area of influence of the largest work platform:
Ainf= 8.25 / 2 x 2.00 / 2 = 4.13m2
Logo:
Platform

Ainf
Ain
f
8.25

2.00

Loading on the post = Workload x Ainf

Loading on the pole = 780.00 kgf/m2x 4.13 m2Load on the post = 3217.50 kgf
2 - Total load on the most requested post:
Total load on the post = Total weight of the scaffolding + Load on the post
Total load on the pole = 692.96 kg + 3217.50 kgf = 3910.46 kgf
3 - Load on the pole:
Load on the pole = Total load on the pole / Number of poles
Load on the pole = 3910.46 kgf / 4 = 977.62 kgf

4
III - BUCKLING:

ρ = √11 / 4,27 = 1,61

λ = Lo/ ρmin

λ = 200 / 1.61 = 124.23

As λ > 105, we have:

Pflambage= π2E I / Lo

Pbuckling= π211550025,699.73 kgf.

Safety factor according to:

FS= 2.

Logo,

Pbuckling5,699.73 / 2 = 2,849.86 kgf.

Since the "load on the pole" is less than 2,849.86 kgf, we will have a situation "OK"
As for the buckling on the most requested pole, there is no problem.

IV - SLIP OF THE CLAMP:

Maximum load for the clamp = Workload + Load of the crossbars + Load
two planks + Load of the clamps on the crossbars / Quantity of clamps distributed
on the largest platform.

Maximum load for fixed clamp = [((780.00 kgf / m2 x 1 m2) + (7.50 m x 3.40 kgf/m) +
72.00kg + (51 pieces x 1.24 kg))] / 12 = 78.40 kgf.

Since the maximum load for clamps is 800kg, there will be no problem regarding the
braces.

The value presented for the maximum loading of clamps is presented based on
slip tests, conducted at the research and development center (CENPES) of
Petrobras.

5
CALCULATION OF THE FLEC IN THE PLANKS:

Considering planks of 3.00m, the least favorable situation.

Dimensions:
Length of the planks = 3.00m.
Width of the boards = 30cm.
Thickness of the boards = 4cm.

Load on the platform = Workload x Width of the platform

Load on the beam = 780 kgf/m2x 30cm = 234.00 kgf/m

F = 5 x Q x L4/ 384 x E x I

F = 5 x 2.34 kgf/cm x (300 cm)4/ 384 x 100.000(kgf/cm2) x 160cm415.42 cm

ƒ max adm= Lo/ 200

ƒ max adm300 / 200 = 1.50 cm

Not OK!
As:

ƒ max adm F, then, means that the board would break. So, we will have to introduce it into the
structural break to reduce the span length. In this case, we will introduce one (01) tube
as a break, reducing the span to 1.50m. Therefore, resizing we will have:

F = 5 x 2.34 kgf/cm x (1.50)4384 x 100,000 x 160 = 0.96 cm

In this case, ƒ max adm So, with the resizing there will be no problem regarding
flexes on the planks.

Note: All calculations in this memory are based on NR18 (STANDARD

REGULATORY), NBR 6494 (SCAFFOLDING SAFETY). Therefore, all the
Techniques, standards, and procedures must be followed for safe assembly.
