Lord. Open our ears to your Holy voice, beloved Father and

our spiritual growth.

INTRODUCTION.
The victory of David against Goliath narrated in 1 Samuel
17, it is simply exciting, how much bravery in this
young!
The Word of God is full of wonderful stories that
they serve as examples and this is one of them; that we
teaches us how to face circumstances
problems that overwhelms us; so that through them
we would know God, His purpose, His goodness and His
severity, the good or bad consequences that we may face
bring about us because of our obedience or
disobedience.
Stories of men and women of God, that lead us to
encourage us to follow their example; they are full of courage and
obedience, to put God above their own lives and their
firm trust in God. An unbreakable faith in the power
of God and in His care for His people.
David had enormous faith in God (Hebrews 11:32-34). The
the story of David and Goliath has an application for
us, because at different stages of our lives,
being Christians, we have behaved like David, or in
many cases like the army of Israel.

BODY OF THE SERMON.

CONTEXT: Saul is king, but he has disobeyed God and

God has rejected his kingship (chap. 15). God said to Samuel
that he anointed David, and Samuel did it; though in secret,
Saul does not know that David was anointed (chap. 16:1-3). The Spirit
The Lord descended upon David
powerfully (cap. 16:13).

POINT #1 THE ENEMY PROVOKES THEM 1S.:17:1

The Palestinians have been enemies of Israel since Israel
occupied the Promised Land. During the time of the judges
Samson fought against the Philistines (Judges: 15: 9-20), and more.
recently the filisteos have defeated SILO, and
captured the Ark of the Covenant (1 Sam: 4; 6). The threat of the
Filisteos was what prompted the elders of Israel to ask for a
king who would rule them (1 Sam.: 8). Several years passed since the
defeat of the Philistines, but they regained their courage and
they provoked Israel to fight again, invading its
territory.
(a) In the face of such a threat, Israel went on the defensive 17:2-3; the
the Israelite army and the Philistines were facing each other, the only thing
what separated them was a valley, however, the Philistines did not
they attacked, since their plan was different and did not require the
spilling of blood. The proposal of the Philistines was
that only two men will fight instead of the armies.
That "WRESTLING" will determine which of the two towns will
would carry the victory, which implied that the loser would
would become the winner's servant.
The problem with the proposal is that the filisters accounted for

height, but also its armor, which seemed to

POINT # 2 FIGHT BETWEEN CHAMPIONS: 1S.: 17: 8-11
The translation in Spanish describes Goliath as '
CHAMPION '; but in Hebrew it literally says: 'MAN
BETWEEN TWO TOWNS. It is the expression that was used to
to refer to the person designated to fight a duel in
the name of a nation, the man who would win would determine
which nation would emerge victorious.
Goliath was the designated one of the Philistines. But it would have
What to know: Who was the "CHAMPION" of Israel? The logical one.
It would have been Saul, who was the tallest man in Israel.
But he was the king and they couldn't lose him; besides, he was afraid.
(b) So: Who would go in their place? No one dared.
The filisteos strategy was working, as
had the entire army of Israel terrified.
(c) When you are scared, you can't think clearly, and the
decisions are made by emotion, not by reason. Fear
it causes the person to become paralyzed and enables them to act in a
different way.
This can happen to us today, if we let ourselves
invade by fear in the face of negative circumstances, no
we will be able to find the solution to the problem. Fear blinds and
paralyzes, while faith helps us see the situation with
spiritual eyes and thus find the solution.
Seeing the fear of the Israelites, Goliath mocked them,
the entire army of Israel trembled, except for one young man...
David.

POINT # 3 DAVID 1S.: 17:12-27

The Bible had already presented David as the anointed one.

it was only prophetic at that moment, as David continued his
normal life; he continued to be the shepherd of his sheep.

to explode. But instead of intimidating David, this inspired him to
the action (the vs 22 is emphasized).
David was outraged upon hearing Goliath's challenge, but what

I felt indignation, the others were afraid because they were

. POINT # 4 THE ARMOR OF GOD 1S.: 17: 34-40

This was not going to be David's first battle, he had
fought against beasts stronger than him, and the Lord had
taught to overcome them. However, David's confidence does not
was based on its own strengths, nor based on
past victories; but in the Lord. He knew that the Lord did not
would let them make fun of Him.
(a) As mentioned earlier, fear
paralyzes, but it also disarms us. Even if one has
weapons, fear leads us to throw them away; that's why Israel couldn't
fight against the enemy, because they were terrified.
David knew that the enemy was well armed, better
that no one in Israel; but he also knew that there is
weapons better than those made by man.
This is what Paul taught in Ephesians 6: 11-13
1.- And what are these weapons? → Ephesians 6: 14-17.
(d) they tried to give David human weapons
they proved to be ineffective. In the same way, if we try to
defeat spiritual enemies with natural weapons, we
we will realize that it is of no use, or worse, perhaps it will
return obstacles.

it is eternal life.
Brothers, let us not falter before the Goliaths that oppress us.
And they want to instill fear in us, God is with us.
Let us rise up like David and fight against them in the
name of God.
