CHAPTER 1 Introduction
Welcome
Thank you for choosing the Matrix COSEC Multi door Access Control System! The COSEC Monitor is an important
part of the COSEC applications which has been primarily designed to Monitor and Control the COSEC devices.
The COSEC Monitor application connects to a MSSQL database at the backend which contains all the information
required by the different COSEC modules. The application is responsible for getting data from database as well as
updating data to the database as well as the Panels and Direct Doors.
If you are accessing the COSEC Server GUI, Device Module> Device Configuration > Click Add Button,
there are three options related to Panel, namely Panel, Panel Lite and Panel200.
The term Panel refers to COSEC Panel200/Panel Lite. The feature access may differ as per the Panel
variant.
Panel Lite V2 has been renamed as Panel200, hence the screens for Panel Lite V2/Panel200 represent
the same.
Intended Audience
• System Administrators, who are persons who will monitor and control the COSEC system after
installation. Generally, an employee of the IT/HR department in an organization or establishment is
selected as the System Administrator. It is assumed that the System Administrator has some previous
experience in configuring and deploying an Access Control cum Time and Attendance system.
• Introduction - gives an overview of this document, its purpose, intended audience, organization, terms
and conventions used to present information and instructions.
• Know Your COSEC Monitor - describes the system and its design, different network topologies, the
interfaces, and the hardware.
• Installing COSEC Monitor application - gives step-by-step instructions for installing the COSEC Monitor
application.
• Starting the COSEC Monitor application - provides instructions for starting up the COSEC Monitor
application as also a description of all the functionalities.
This System Manual is presented in a manner that will help you find the information you need easily and quickly.

• Monitor Utility
• Monitor Service
In COSEC Centra (Premise based setup), Monitor Service has to be started for using the Monitor Utility. It can be
started from tray application or by browsing the folder from All Programs> Matrix> COSEC > COSEC Monitor
Service.
The Monitor Service connects with the configured COSEC devices. The Monitor Utility is used to send
commands to the COSEC devices as well as monitor and control the device and user events as explained in this
section.
COSEC Monitor Utility supports language translation using the Multi Language Utility. To know more, refer to the
Multi Language Utility User Guide.
• Send commands to temporarily override the policies and rules as configured in the COSEC software.
• Deactivate the activated time trigger functions as well as the I/O linking programs.
The COSEC Monitor service connects to all the connected COSEC devices and is the link between the COSEC
database and the devices. Any changes to the configuration in the database is immediately downloaded to the
appropriate online devices. The user can check the status of the COSEC Monitor service from the Services option
of the windows Control Panel or from the service tray.
Before commencing the installation, make sure that the computer on which the COSEC Monitor Utility will be
installed meets the necessary requirements.
System Requirements
• Operating Systems: Windows7 Professional and above
• DVD/CD-ROM drive
If you are using large number of devices, more number of users and bulky data in COSEC Application, then
it is advisable to upgrade your computer system configuration to get good performance result.
Click Install.
The End User License Agreement page will appear when new installation is done.
You can select Complete or Custom Installation. We will proceed further with Custom option.
\To install COSEC Monitor Service, the FIPS Algorithm Policy must be disabled. To know more, refer
“Installing Monitor Service”.
Click Next to install the setup. The confirmation window appears. Click Install to proceed with the installation and
the Custom installation process begins.
After the successful installation of COSEC Monitor and COSEC Monitor Service, Installation Complete window
appears as shown below.
We recommend you to enable certain Security Settings after the Installation is done. To do so, make sure you
download and run the Security Configuration Utility.
After installation, a shortcut icon of COSEC Monitor Utility will be created on your desktop as shown:
To install the Monitor Service make sure you complete the steps mentioned in the pre-requisites and then install the
same.
Monitor Service will be active and run only if Master Service is running.
If you have started installing the Monitor Service and if the FIPS Algorithm flag is enabled then following
pop up will appear.
To disable FIPS Algorithm Policy, select Registry Editor (or search regedit) from the start menu of your computer.
Then in the Registry Editor follow this path:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy.
• Now you need to reset the Internet Information Services (IIS) Server. To do so, search Internet
Information Services (IIS) Manager from the start menu of your computer.
Now you can proceed with the installation of the Monitor Service. To know about the installation of Monitor Service,
refer “Installing COSEC Monitor Utility”.
When Monitor Service starts, Monitor Service’s icon will be displayed in the System Tray (Notification area) on
the right side of the taskbar. When Monitor Service stops, Monitor Service’s icon will be displayed.
Right Click
The options displayed are — Start/Stop Monitor Service, Settings, Version Upgrade, Sync Log Parameters, Refresh
Status, About and Exit.
• To start this service through the Service Manager Tray, click on Start Monitor Service.
• To configure the settings of Monitor Service, first stop this service by clicking Stop Monitor Service, and
then click Settings. To know more, refer “Settings”.
• To enable debug logs of the Monitor Service, click Sync Log Parameters. This is used for trouble-
shooting by the Technical Support Team.
When service is running and Admin database loses connectivity or is unavailable then the service will keep
running for 24 hours by default after which it will stop.
The maximum hours allowed for service is given as the configurable tag in [Link] file from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix\COSEC Monitor Service.
If Auto Synchronize with NTP is disabled for some devices from COSEC Web, then the date-time of
devices can be synced with sever date-time by specifying the SetDateTime value in Monitor [Link]
file.
• IP Address: If your PC is having multiple network connections, the IP Addresses of these networks will be
displayed in the drop down list. Select the desired IP Address.
The IP Address of the first enabled network will be set as the default IP Address for this service.
If none of the network connections are enabled, then IP Address of the running service will get updated to
[Link] - Localhost and the services will continue running.
To restore the IP Address to the desired one, you must first enable the connection from network
connections and then select its IP Address from the drop down list manually.
As the Windows10 PC boots up fast, so services will check and retry for the availability of assigned IP
address before finally moving to [Link]
If more than one network connections are enabled then the first enabled network connections IP Address
will be assigned to all the services on service startup after installation.
Click Refresh IP List to update the list of all network adapters (network connections).
• Master Service Address: Enter the IP Address or URL of the Master Service.
On changing or updating the Master Service Address, connection with the Master Service must be tested.
Click Test Connection to test the connection of Monitor Service with Master service.
• Web Access Port Number: Enter the port number of the computer at which COSEC Web can access the
Monitor Service.
• Secured Web Access Port Number: Enter the port number of the computer at which COSEC Web can
access the Monitor Service on SSL mode.
• Request Time-Out (Sec): Enter the request time-out duration in seconds for the Monitor Service
approaching Master Service for connection.
• Response Time-Out (Sec): Enter the response time-out duration in seconds for the Monitor Service
approaching Master Service for connection.
• Device Port Number: Enter the port number at which device will communicate with Monitor Service.
• Device Secured Port Number: Enter the port number at which device will communicate with Monitor
Service on SSL mode.
The languages listed here will be as per the language files present in the C:\Program Files
(x86)\Matrix\COSEC Master Service\Language Resource.
Name of the English language file for services will be: SERVICES_EN-US.
Name of the language file differs as per the language. For example, name of the Arabic (Saudi Arabia)
language file for services will be SERVICES_AR-SA.
If you prefer a different language other than the default language file (i.e. English), you can translate this
default language into the desired language with the help of COSEC Multi-Language Utility. To know more,
refer to the Multi-Language Utility User Guide.
This new user will have the rights to start/stop the service and make changes to the settings of service.
When you exit from the Monitor Service Tray Application manually then this service will not be visible in the tray for
that particular windows login session. When you log in to windows session again, the service tray will be launched
again.
To start the COSEC Monitor desktop application, click on the following COSEC Monitor icon on the desktop.
To view the login page in the desired language, click the Language dropdown list and select the desired language.
Enter the Login ID (default:sa) and Password (default:admin) as set for the COSEC Web Application.
By default, the login page appears in the language as set by the System Administrator in Global
Language For Login. For more information refer Global Language For Login in User Guide, Admin
Module> System Configuration> Global Policy> Basic Policy> Global Language For Login.
All Panels and door controllers as defined in the COSEC web application will appear in the grid along with their
current connection status. All Panels and door controllers which are connected on the network will have the green
icon alongside while the disconnected Panels or doors will have the red icon against their name. The strip above
the grid displays the number of devices as per their current status as shown.
Click on the status icons and view the device status as follows:
Click on this icon to view only the online devices in the grid.
Click on this icon to view only the offline devices in the grid.
Click on this icon to view all inactive or undefined devices on the network in a pop up window.
Click on the pull down arrow button and select all devices option to view all devices.
This will filter the devices displayed based on the string entered in the filter field.
The icon on the bottom right corner of the COSEC Monitor page enables the user to view the local network
and database server settings of the COSEC Monitor application as shown.
The Multiple Monitor services can be connected to one Monitor Utility and vice versa.
On assignment of any monitor service; a list of all monitor services will be sent to all monitor services to
make them aware of other services in there group.
In the event of a device having an older version of the firmware the icon is displayed against the appropriate
device as shown. This indicates that the user needs to upgrade the firmware as explained in a later section.
In the event of the above, the system will disable all options and the user has to either minimize the window till
resumption of database connection or close the application altogether by clicking on the x button on the upper right
corner of the screen.
The user can view the PANEL or DOOR details by clicking on the appropriate device as shown in the following
figure.
Click on the Filter icon on the right side of tool-bar. The Device Filter window appears as shown [Link]
can see the devices based on filter options of Monitor Service and Sites & Devices as shown below:
But, suppose you select all monitor services and clicked Apply button, then devices of all the monitor services will
be displayed in Device section of Site & Device.
To view sites of Monitor Service, Click on Site in Sites & Devices Section.
Commands
The Commands option enables the user to send the following commands directly to the devices. This can be done
either
• by selecting the desired device from the Device list and clicking on the Device menu to select the desired
Commands or
• by selecting the desired device from the Device list and right clicking the mouse to select the desired
Commands.
The COSEC MONITOR can send Commands to the Selected Device or to Multiple Devices. The Commands
option enables the user to send the following commands directly to the device based on the device type.
• Set Date Time: Sends the current system date and time to the device.
• Normalize/Lock/Unlock/Open Door: Sends the appropriate commands to the door to reset the door lock
status and open the door.
The Access Control features will be applicable on COSEC door when door is in Normalize mode. Door lock
and Door Unlock will not allow access policy to function.
• Delete Fingerprints: Sends command to delete the fingerprints from the fingerprint module of the
selected device.
• Factory Defaults: Sends the command to set the device settings to the default factory settings.
• Change Password: Sends command to change the password of selected user on the COSEC device.
• Manual Forgiveness (only for Panel200 and Direct doors PVR, V3, Wireless, Vega, FMX, ARC
DC200, ARGO, ARGO FACE, and PATH V2): The user who is denied access due to Anti-pass back
violation can be reset by giving Manual Forgiveness command. With this the user wont have to wait for
the timer to expire and he can access the doors again.
• Forgiveness For: For Panel200; select the option as Local or Global for which manual forgiveness is
to be given.
For Local; select the Access Zone from the picklist. In this forgiveness is sent to the selected access
zone only.
Select the desired command from the Commands for the Selected Device. Enter the User ID and Password in
the Matrix COSEC MONITOR pop-up and click Send to send the desired command to the selected device.
• Disable/Normalize Aux-Input (only for VEGA, V4, ARC DC200 Direct doors and ARC DC200 Single
Door Dual Reader Panel door): Sends the appropriate commands to the door to reset the Aux-Input
status.
• Disable/Normalize Aux-Output (only for VEGA, V4, ARC DC200 Direct doors and ARC DC200 Single
Door Dual Reader Panel door): Sends the appropriate commands to the door to reset the Aux-Output
status.
• Delete Palms: Sends command to delete the palm templates from the selected device.
• Delete Faces (only for Vega, FMX, MODE, ARGO and ARGO FACE Direct doors): Sends command to
delete the Face templates from the selected device.
• Reset Aux O/P Latch: Sends command to reset the Auxiliary relay on the PANEL and removes it from the
latch mode.
• Normalize/Disable Door Sense: Sends the appropriate commands to the door to reset the Door Sense
status.
• Synchronize credentials: Sends command to synchronize the fingerprints/palm templates from the
PANEL to the DOORs. It is recommended to first send the delete fingerprints/palm command to the doors
before starting the synchronizing process.
For Selected Devices, the 8 Aux. Input and Aux. Output options are applicable only for ARC IO 800 -
Panel200 Door.
However, the Date & Time command will only work when the Manual Mode is configured (Auto Synchronize with
NTP flag is unchecked in Device Configuration> Profile> Access Settings).
In the event of a PANEL/PANEL Lite/Panel200 or Doors just select the Upgrade Firmware option and click Yes
when the prompt to upgrade the Firmware is displayed.
Before initiating the Firmware Upgrade process, Monitor Utility will check for device’s current firmware version in
case of applicable Single Device or Multiple Device.
First the Utility will check for any available intermediate Benchmark Version when Firmware Upgrade is done from
Firmware Version less than Benchmark Version to Firmware Version greater than the Benchmark Version.
The Firmware will be upgraded first to the Benchmark Version. Then the User will have to manually upgrade the
Firmware for the second time to the desired Firmware Version.
Change Server Settings: The desktop monitoring application also enables the administrator to directly edit the
Server settings parameter of the PANEL from the desktop application. This can be done by selecting the Change
Server Settings option as shown.
Specify the new Server IP Address and the Server Listening Port of the COSEC MONITOR computer. Click on
Change to send the command of the new server settings to the PANEL. This option also has the Apply to All
Connected Devices option to enable the administrator to send this command to all connected devices.
In the event of a firewall, administrator needs to ensure that this server listening port is kept open to allow
communication between the COSEC MONITOR application and the devices.
The COSEC MONITOR application also allows the administrator to upgrade multiple devices in one go.
Restore Configuration: This option enables the administrator to restore the configuration and Fingerprint
templates to the PANEL or DIRECT DOOR as and when required. Right click on the PANEL or DIRECT DOOR and
select the Restore Configuration option. Click on the Start button.
For a PVR Door configured as PANEL Door, Palm templates can be restored by selecting the door and clicking on
Restore configuration option.
DOOR
The COSEC Monitor displays the status as well as other configuration details of the DOORs. The user can also
pass commands to the selected devices from the application as explained earlier. Apart from the above the
following options are available:
Upgrade Firmware: Upgrades the firmware version on the DIRECT DOOR. The COSEC MONITOR application
also allows the administrator to upgrade multiple devices in one go.
Before initiating the Firmware Upgrade process, Monitor Utility will check for device’s current firmware version in
case of applicable Single Device or Multiple Device.
First the Utility will check for any available intermediate Benchmark Version when Firmware Upgrade is done from
Firmware Version less than Benchmark Version to Firmware Version greater than the Benchmark Version.
The Firmware will be upgraded first to the Benchmark Version. Then the User will have to manually upgrade the
Firmware for the second time to the desired Firmware Version.
Check the boxes against the devices to be upgraded and click on the Start button to start the upgrade process.
Change Server Settings: The desktop monitoring application also enables the administrator to directly edit the IP
settings of the COSEC MONITOR application computer as set in the Controller settings from the desktop
application. This can be done from the Change Server Settings option as shown.
The utility will now start downloading the appropriate DIRECT DOOR firmware to the DOOR Controller.
In the event of the DIRECT DOOR already being online, use the Upgrade Firmware option from the
COSEC MONITOR application as explained earlier to upgrade the firmware on the DOOR.
This section displays the various alarms which have been activated on the system. It also provides the user with
the option to acknowledge or clear these reported alarm conditions. Click on the Alarms option located in the upper
left half of the window as shown.
The COSEC Monitor will display the alarms in the lower half of the screen as shown.
The section displays the following information about the active alarm events:
• Description of Alarm
• Alarm level
• Alarm Status
• Alarm Time
Right click on the individual alarm and select the appropriate option to acknowledge or clear the alarm respectively.
For changing the alarm status, the user will be prompted to provide the login password. Also, he may provide an
optional remark to justify his action.
User also has the option to acknowledge or clear all the active alarms in one go by selecting the Acknowledge all
or Clear all options.
Use the Sound ON/OFF button to enable/disable audio alert whenever an alarm is triggered on any device.
The Soft Override option enables the user to temporarily override certain features which have been enabled in the
system at the PANEL level. Click on the Soft Override option located in the upper left half of the window as shown.
The Soft Override Commands section opens on the bottom half of the screen as shown. Select the PANEL to
which the override command is to be sent.
Select the functionality which needs to be overridden from the Override pull down list. Specify the override time in
minutes and click on Submit. A pop up window appears as shown. Enter the administrator password in the
Password field before clicking the Go button. The following functionalities can be overridden using this option:
• 2 Person Rule
• ACS Policies
• Alarm
• Anti-Pass-Back
• First-IN-User-Rule
• Mantrap
• Occupancy Control
• Visitor Escort Rule
The bottom grid displays the overridden features in the system as shown in the figure. To resume an overridden
feature select the feature and right click on it. Select Resume to stop the override function before the override
duration is completed.
All event logs on the system are displayed on this page as shown. This section only gives the option for viewing the
events occurring at the COSEC Controllers. Click on the Events option located in the upper left half of the window
as shown. The Events section appears on the bottom half of the screen displaying the logs of events occurring at
the PANEL and DOORs as shown.
Event-wise filter
Click on the filter button on the right hand corner of the Events panel. The events can be filtered based on
User Events, Door Events, Alarm Events, System Events, Cafeteria Events and VAM events.
This option displays the exception events on the COSEC system. Click on the Exceptions option located in the
upper left half of the window as shown. The Exceptions section appears on the bottom half of the screen
displaying the exception events as shown.
All events relating to the PANEL or DOORs and having the following status are displayed on this page as shown:
• Disconnected: Will be displayed in the event of the PANEL or DOOR being disconnected from the
network.
• Offline: In the event of the PANEL being connected then DOOR status will be displayed as offline if
applicable.
• Unknown: In the event of the PANEL being disconnected then the status of all PANEL DOORs connected
to that PANEL will be displayed as Unknown.
This option displays the details of the activated Time Triggered Function events on the COSEC system. Click on
the Time Triggered Functions option located in the upper left half of the window as shown. The Time Trigger
Function(s) section appears on the bottom half of the screen displaying the activated Time Trigger Function events
as shown.
The following details of the activated Time Triggered Functions are displayed.
In order to reset an activated time triggered function, right click on the same and select the Reset option to
deactivate the function.
For more details on this function refer the Time Triggered Functions section of the COSEC Access Control module
of the system manual.
The EMAP feature enables to configure Emap for some location and place devices for receiving notifications about
Alarms in a graphical manner.
Click on Tools and select Configure Emap. The EMAP Template Settings window appears as shown below.
Click on New to configure new EMAP template. The Select Monitor Service window appears as shown
below. Select the Monitor service from the drop down options.
Then click Next button. The EMAP Template opens where the Emap image (in jpg or jpeg format) can be added.
You can upload image of any size but it will appear as per your window.
Click on Browse button and select the Emap Image of the floor/site plan to be monitored for event notification.
After selecting the image, it will be loaded in the working area as shown below.
The device list will display only those devices which are configured with the Monitor Service of selected
EMAP.
Drag and drop the desired device to the Emap image. The device position can also be changed and the devices
can also be deleted from the Emap.
Click on Save button and specify the Template Name of the Emap. The configured Emap will be saved in the
Emap List.
The EMAP can be edited by clicking Edit button as well as deleted by clicking Delete EMAP button.
An added Device can be deleted by selecting the device and pressing delete tab. Device can be deleted is
while adding new Template as well as editing available Template.
You can also resize the device image with the help of mouse as shown below. (On Premise Solution only)
When any Emap is added and devices are assigned to Emap; then you can send commands to device by right
clicking on device as shown below.
The COSEC Monitor and control desktop application has the following menu options at the upper left corner of the
page.

File Menu
The File menu has Logout and Exit options which enables the user to log out or close the monitoring application.
The Device menu provides options to send commands, Upgrade firmware, change IP address, and restore
configuration to the selected PANEL or DIRECT DOOR. For more details on these options refer the PANEL &
DOOR detail section of this manual.

The Data Transfer sub menu gives access to the following options as shown. This functionality enables the system
to upload or download data to a USB drive or another storage source.
This option enables the COSEC application to upload the following data to the USB drive or other storage device.
• System configuration
• Fingerplate templates
The USB drive has to be formatted using the FAT32 file system format. In the event of using the Format option from
the above window, the system formats the USB Flash drive and creates folders for each of the defined COSEC
controllers appearing in the Select device grid.
The system follows a naming convention which names the folders using the last eight digits of the MAC address of
the device. Each of the device folders in turn consist of the following sub folders as shown:
• Config
• Event
The Upload option will populate the config and the firmware folders depending on the selections.
The New option will write only those data that have been changed since the last upload or since the time the device
went offline whichever is later. Click on Upload button to write the selected data to the storage device or location.
This option enables the COSEC application to download events from USB flash drive or a storage location. In order
to access this functionality go to Tools Data Transfer Download Data. The following window appears.
Select the device whose events are to be downloaded to the database and click on the Download button. The
application downloads the data from the Event folder of the selected device to the COSEC database and displays
the following message at the end of the process.
Options:
The Options sub menu enables the administrator to set the following settings.
• Display Settings
• Log Settings
Display settings: It enables the administrator to configure the events to be displayed on the COSEC MONITOR
window.
The Show User Details option enables the display of the User details including the User Photo on the lower left
side of the MONITOR window.
The Message Display Options enables the administrator to configure the events which should be displayed in the
Events section.
Log Settings: It enables the administrator to define the system log storage settings as generated by the system.
On selecting this option the following window appears.
The COSEC Monitor application has the capability to store system events as logs, which can subsequently be used
for debugging purposes. To enable this functionality select the Monitor service from drop down list and check the
Enable Service Logging and Enable Export Event Logging box.
COSEC currently provides multi-language support on devices such as PVR, NGT, Vega,Door V3 and Wireless
Door Controller which can be customized to display messages in multiple languages. To use this feature, the user
(SA/SE/SO) must upload a specific language file provided in the COSEC Monitor setup to the required device.
To upload the language file on a device, go to Tools > Upload Language File.
On the Language File - Upload pop up window, select devices and click the Start button to start the upload
process.
Any changes in the language file should reflect on all selected devices once the file upload is successfully
completed.
• To access the device language file, browse to the following location on the Monitor PC:
• For the file to upload successfully, ensure that the multilanguage support feature is enabled for the
selected devices in the COSEC Web Application.
Refresh Button: The refresh button is provided in the upper right corner of the Devices section to reset the
connection with the COSEC database as well as update the data displayed on the COSEC Monitor page in line with
the latest changes as done from the web module.
The COSEC MONITOR application offers certain advanced features to view user information based on selected
user events. As mentioned in the previous section, the Show User Details option available under Display
Settings of the Options window enables the display of the User details including the User Photo on the lower left
side of the MONITOR window.
Double click on this section to view the user details on a full screen display. The User Details page appears. Right
click on the page and select the Customize option as shown.
Select the template to be defined from the drop down list of the Template field. The following templates can be set
form this page:
Text
Field
Pointer Image
User Photo
Company Logo
Select the appropriate option by clicking on the relevant icon followed by dragging and dropping the mouse on the
area where you would like to place the entity.
The Properties grid on the right side of the page enables the user to edit the content as well as the display
properties of the selected entity as shown.
Select the entity on the page and drag the border points to edit the size of the display area as shown.
The following is a sample screen with all the entities placed on the screen. The entities can be selected and placed
on the screen as per your requirement.
In the event of a text field the text content can be edited from the Properties grid.
To delete an entity from the page, right click on the entity and select the Delete option.
The configuration of template editing for Idle Time Template is similar to User Events Template. For details, refer to
“User Events Template”.
Close
Save
Click on the Close button to return to the live User Details page.
In order to close the User Details page, right click on the window and select the Close option.
