I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Challenges Construction for giving me the
opportunity to undertake my internship in their esteemed organization. I am thankful to my
site supervisors and colleagues for their continuous support, guidance, and motivation
throughout the internship. I am also grateful to Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute,
Mumbai, and the faculty members for facilitating this opportunity.
Introduction
As part of the curriculum for the Civil Engineering program, I completed a short-term
internship at Challenges Construction from 19th May 2025 to 12th June 2025. The
internship was aimed at providing practical exposure to the construction industry and
helping students bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world practices.
About the Organization
Challenges Construction is a reputed construction firm specializing in residential,
commercial, and infrastructure projects. The company is known for adopting modern
technologies and maintaining high standards in quality, safety, and sustainability.
Internship Role and Responsibilities
During my internship, I was assigned the dual role of Site Engineer and Quantity & Quality
Estimation Engineer. My responsibilities included:
- Supervising ongoing construction activities on site
- Preparing cost estimation and BOQs (Bill of Quantities)
- Monitoring quality of materials and workmanship
- Identifying construction defects and suggesting rectifications
- Studying and observing MIVAN construction technology used on site
Work Done
1. **Cost Estimation:** Prepared quantity take-offs and cost estimates for various
components like foundation, slabs, columns, and finishing works.
2. **Site Supervision:** Monitored daily site activities, coordinated with subcontractors, and
ensured work progress as per schedule.
3. **Defect Analysis:** Identified issues such as honeycombing in concrete and improper
curing; reported to the senior engineer.
4. **MIVAN Technology Study:** Observed the aluminum formwork system and noted its
advantages such as speed, precision, and finish quality.
Skills Developed
- Practical knowledge of construction techniques
- Understanding of cost estimation and quantity surveying
- Enhanced communication and teamwork skills
- Exposure to modern construction technologies like MIVAN
- Quality control and safety awareness
Challenges and Solutions
One major challenge was understanding site drawings and correlating them with on-ground
execution. With help from senior engineers, I learned how to read and interpret
construction plans. Another challenge was identifying quality defects, which I overcame
through regular inspections and learning from experienced site staff.
Conclusion
The internship at Challenges Construction was a valuable experience that enhanced my
technical and practical skills. It helped me gain a deeper understanding of real-life
construction processes and develop the confidence to work in a professional environment.
This experience will be instrumental in shaping my future career as a civil engineer.
