CLASS-X (PHYSICS)
CH-10 (LIGHT) (PRACTICE SHEET-1) (NUMERICAL)
1. An object is placed at a distance of 10cm from a convex mirror of focal length 15cm. Find the position and
nature of the image? Ans-(v=6cm)
2. An object 5.0cm in length is placed at a distance of 20cm in front of a convex mirror of radius of curvature
30cm. Find position and nature and size of an image formed.( Ans-v=8.57cm, I=2.1cm)
3. A 2.5cm candle is placed 12cm away from a convex mirror of focal length 30cm. Give the location of the
image and magnification.(8.6cm:1.8cm)
4. A convex mirror used for rear view on an automobile has a radius of curvature 3.00m. If Bus is located at
5.00m from this mirror, Find the position and nature and magnification of image formed? (1.15m: virtual
and erect, 0.23)
5. If object placed on an optical bench at 50 cm mark was focused on white screen placed at 92cm mark, using
a mirror placed on the scale at 8 cm mark. Find
a) Focal length of the mirror
b) Find position of an image formed if the object is shifted towards the mirror at a position of 29cm.
c) State the nature of an image formed if the object is further shifted towards the mirror. Also draw Ray
diagram for it.
6. The magnification of an image formed by a mirror is -1. If the distance of image from pole is 25cm, where is
the object placed? Find the nature and focal length of the mirror if object is displaced 15cm towards the
pole of the mirror, where would the image be formed?
7. An object of height 6cm is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a concave mirror of focal length
5cm. Find the position and nature of the image if distance of an object from the mirror is 10cm.
8. A Student wants to project the image of candle flame on a screen 60cm in front of a mirror by keeping the
flame at a distance of 15 cm from its pole.
a) Write the type of mirror he should use.
b) Find the linear magnification of the image produced.
c) What is the distance of the object and its image?
d) Draw ray diagram to show formation of its image in this case.
9. A concave mirror is used for image formation of different positions of an object. What inferences can be
drawn about the following when an object is placed at a distance of 10cm from the pole of a concave
mirror of focal length 15cm?
a) Position of an image
b) Size and nature
C) Also draw ray diagram.
10. The following table shows object distance and focal length of three concave mirrors, answer the following
questions:
S.No Object distance(m) Focal length(m)
1 0.30 0.20
2 0.10 0.15
3 0.20 0.10
(a) Out of three, in which part the mirror will form the image having same size as an object?
(b) Which mirror can be used as shaving mirror?
11. An object of height 5cm is placed on the principal axis of a concave mirror of focal length 20cm. if the
virtual image is formed by the concave mirror at distance of 10cm from the pole, then find the size if image
formed.
12. A bus uses a convex mirror as view finder whose radius of curvature is 4m. A car is coming behind the bus,
which is at distance of 20m. What will be the position and size of the image of car when observed by the
driver of the bus through the convex mirror?
13. Size of an image of an object by a mirror having focal length of 20cm is observed to be reduced to one third
of its size. At what distance the object has been placed from the mirror? What is the nature of the image
and the mirror? (Ans- u=-80cm, u=-40cm)
14. An object is kept in front of a concave mirror of focal length 30 cm. The image is three times the size of the
object. Calculate two possible distances of object from the mirror.
15. The image of an object formed by a mirror is real, inverted and is of magnification -1. If the image is at
distance of 40 cm from the mirror, where is the object placed? Where would the image be if the object is
moved 20 cm towards the mirror?
