Aims and Objective
This course aims to enhance students' critical thinking, analytical skills, and communication techniques in the Arts
and Humanities. It involves engagement with various forms of media and texts, where students will practice precise
analysis and interpretation. The course requires individual work, such as crafting critiques and case studies, alongside
collaborative tasks, fostering balanced development in individual and group settings. The objective is to solidify
students' interdisciplinary understanding and equip them with the practical skills necessary for professional or
academic advancement.
Intended Learning Outcomes of the Course
On completion of the course, students should be able to
ILO1. recognise and explain the fundamental themes, ideas, and perspectives presented in secondary sources
within the scope of Arts and Humanities;
ILO2. apply effective strategies to summarise and paraphrase information from authentic texts in Arts and
Humanities, demonstrating comprehension and accuracy;
ILO3. demonstrate evaluative and analytical skills to compose a comprehensive critique of a film within the
context of Arts and Humanities;
ILO4. produce a case study that integrates discipline insights with broader Arts and Humanities contexts,
demonstrating the ability in crafting cohesive, critical examinations;
ILO5. evaluate and summarise Arts and Humanities Texts in group discussions reflecting a thorough
understanding and effective communication of interdisciplinary knowledge.

Skills taught:
Reading:
• Analytical and critical reading of various textual and media sources, focusing on the ability to
discern and discuss central themes, arguments, and perspectives relevant to the Arts and
Humanities.
• Precise interpretation of content, preparing students for comprehensive engagement in group
discussions and informed contributions to their written assignments (film critique and case study).
Writing:
• Crafting informed and compelling critiques, reviews, and case studies that reflect a deep
understanding of selected films and texts within the Arts and Humanities.
• Synthesising information and arguments from multiple sources to produce coherent, persuasive, and
analytical written work.
• Effective summarising and paraphrasing, essential for the accurate representation of secondary
sources, critical for both the film critique and the case study report.
Speaking:
• Advanced discussion techniques, including presenting clear and concise arguments, engaging in
critical discussions, and building on others' ideas.
• Preparing and delivering brief presentations as part of the group discussion assessment, along with
active and informed participation in collaborative analytical discussions.
