Anchor Shear Capacity Calculation (With
Substitutions)
Assumptions:
- Anchor: Cast-in, Hooked Bolt, M12 (da = 12 mm)
- Tensile stress area: Ase,V = 84 mm²
- Embedment depth: hef = 75 mm Þ le = 75 mm
- Edge distance in shear direction: ca1 = 60 mm
- Concrete compressive strength: f'c = 40 MPa (cracked)
- Steel ultimate tensile strength: futa = 800 MPa
1) Steel Shear Strength (Vsa):
Formula: Vsa,nom = 0.6 × Ase,V × futa
= 0.6 × (84 mm²) × (800 N/mm²)
= 40,320 N = 40.3 kN
2) Concrete Breakout Shear (Vcb):
Vb = min [ 7 × (le/da)0.2 × Öda × Öf'c × ca11.5,
9 × Öda × Öf'c × ca11.5 ]
Substitute:
= min [ 7 × (75/12)0.2 × Ö12 × Ö40 × 601.5,
9 × Ö12 × Ö40 × 601.5 ]
= min [102,830 N , 91,641 N ]
= 91,641 N = 91.6 kN
Apply yed,V=0.9 Þ Vcb,nom = 0.9 × 91.6 = 82.5 kN
fVcb = 0.65 × 82.5 = 53.6 kN
3) Concrete Pry-out (Vcp):
Formula: Vcp,nom = kcp × Ncb
hef = 75 mm (» 3 in) ³ 2.5 in Þ kcp = 2.0
Given Ncb = 33.86 kN
Vcp,nom = 2.0 × 33.86 = 67.7 kN
fVcp = 0.65 × 67.7 = 44.0 kN
Failure Mode Nominal Strength (kN) Design Strength fVn (kN)
Steel Shear 40.3 26.2
Concrete Breakout 82.5 53.6
Concrete Pryout 67.7 44.0
Conclusion:
The governing shear strength is controlled by Steel Shear.
Design shear strength per anchor: fVn = 26.2 kN
Equivalent ASD allowable » 16.4 kN (if W = 1.6).
