Lesson Plan – Family and Friends 3

(Unit 9: Lesson 5 & Lesson 6)


General Information

Class Duration: 90 minutes


Book: Family and Friends 3
Unit: 9 – Describing Places
Lessons: Lesson 5 (Skills Time) & Lesson 6 (Listening, Speaking, Writing)

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:


- Understand and use vocabulary related to world records and geography (e.g. country,
river, building, etc.).
- Practice reading for specific information.
- Listen for specific information and complete a chart.
- Ask and answer questions about geographical features.
- Use adverbs of frequency correctly in sentences.
- Develop speaking fluency and confidence through interactive activities.

Part 1: Textbook-Based Session (60 minutes)

1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Review previously learned vocabulary related to places. Use flashcards or realia to activate
prior knowledge.

2. Vocabulary & Reading (20 minutes)

- Page 76: Teach new vocabulary (building, country, bridge, river, old, long) using pictures.
- Practice pronunciation through listen and repeat.
- Describe pictures and encourage students to speak.
- Read the "World Records" text and answer comprehension questions.
- Task: Match sentence halves based on reading.
3. Listening & Speaking (20 minutes)

- Page 77: Students listen and complete the chart with geographical information (biggest
lake, longest river, highest mountain).
- Practice asking and answering questions using prompts like “What’s the biggest lake in
Spain?”
- Pair work activity to reinforce question and answer structures.

4. Grammar: Adverbs of Frequency (15 minutes)

- Teach/review adverbs of frequency and where they are placed in a sentence.


- Practice with examples from the textbook.
- Correct errors in provided sentences.

Part 2: Creative Speaking-Based Activity (30 minutes)

Activity Title: “Create Your Own Country”

Objective: To practice using new vocabulary and speaking in full sentences while
developing creative thinking.

Instructions:
- Divide students into small groups.
- Each group invents a fictional country. They decide on:
- Name of the country
- Longest river
- Biggest lake
- Highest mountain
- Interesting building (e.g., old temple, bridge)
- They also write 3–4 facts using adverbs of frequency (e.g., People always swim in the lake.
They sometimes go to the mountain.)
- Each group presents their country to the class.

Skills Practiced: Speaking (presentation, fluency), Writing (sentences with adverbs),


Reading (group notes), Listening (to each other’s presentations)
