CHAPTER 3

Internship experiences and Learning Outcomes

3.1 Work Assigned-As part of the training, I was given practical activities that
allowed me to explore Salesforce beyond just theory. I worked on creating and customising
data structures, ensuring data accuracy through validation rules, and setting up automation
using flows. I also learned to convert raw data into meaningful insights by preparing reports
and dashboards. Each task was designed to simulate real business scenarios, making it easier
to understand how Salesforce is used in everyday organisational processes.

1. Custom object and standard object- In Salesforce, standard objects are the ones
already provided by the platform, such as Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, and Leads.
They are built-in and cover common business needs.Custom objects are the ones we create
ourselves to store information that is specific to a particular business or process. They allow
us to add custom fields, set permissions, and build relationships with other objects, making
Salesforce more flexible and tailored to unique requirements.

14
Apart from the Student Object, I also created several other custom objects in Salesforce to
meet different data management needs. One of them was the Course Object, designed to
store key details about each course, such as the name, duration, and description. I developed
the Admission Enquiry Object to record and monitor all incoming enquiries from potential
students, making it easier to track responses and follow-ups.

For managing finances, I created the Expenses Object to keep a systematic record of all
types of organisational spending. Along with that, I built the Expense Claim Object, which
allows users to submit reimbursement requests and track their approval status. These
additional objects improved the structure of the system, made information retrieval faster, and
ensured data was well-organised for reporting and analysis.

2. Fields and relationships - In Salesforce, fields are used to store specific pieces of
information in an object, such as a name, phone number, or date. They define what type of
data can be entered (text, number, picklist, etc.).

Relationships connect one object to another so related data can be linked and viewed
together. The two main types are:

15
Lookup Relationship – A loose link between two objects.

Master-Detail Relationship – A strong link where one object depends on another.

3. Validation rule-A validation rule in Salesforce is a condition that checks the data
entered into a record and ensures it meets specific requirements before saving. It helps
maintain data quality by preventing incorrect or incomplete information from being stored in
the system.

16
4. flows and automation - In Salesforce, flows and automation are tools that perform
tasks automatically, such as updating records, sending alerts, or creating new entries, without
needing manual input every time. They help save time, reduce errors, and make business
processes more efficient.

3 REPORTS - In Salesforce, reports are used to collect, organise, and display data
from the system in a structured way, helping users analyse information and make
better decisions.

17
4 Dashboards - In Salesforce, dashboards visually display data from reports using
charts, graphs, and metrics, making it easier to understand trends and track performance
at a glance. They provide a quick overview of key business information in one place.

3.2 Executive Training

The Salesforce Executive Training Programme was conducted under the guidance of an
experienced and industry-certified trainer from Lambence Pvt. Ltd. The trainer brought with

18
them strong practical knowledge of Salesforce CRM along with a clear understanding of
how the platform is applied in different business scenarios.

With expertise in Salesforce administration, process automation, and data analytics, the
trainer ensured that the sessions were interactive, hands-on, and business-oriented. Rather
than focusing solely on theory, the trainer encouraged participants to work directly within the
Salesforce environment, creating custom objects, setting up field relationships, applying
validation rules, and building reports and dashboards.

Key qualities of the trainer included:

 Industry Experience: Several years of experience in CRM implementation and

training across various industries.
 Clear Teaching Approach: Step-by-step explanations, ensuring participants
understood both the technical steps and the business purpose behind each feature.
 Hands-On Guidance: Providing real-time support as participants performed tasks
like creating automation workflows, building flows, and designing visual reports.
 Business Insight: Demonstrating how Salesforce features directly improve
operational efficiency, decision-making, and customer relationship management in
real organizations.

The trainer’s combination of technical expertise, real-world examples, and interactive

teaching style helped ensure that participants could not only understand Salesforce tools but
also connect them to their future professional applications.

In addition, the trainer shared best practices for CRM usage, explained common mistakes
and how to avoid them, and gave career guidance on Salesforce certifications and job
opportunities in the CRM domain. Their approachable nature and readiness to answer
questions created an engaging learning environment, motivating participants to explore the
platform beyond the training exercises. The trainer’s dedication to both technical accuracy
and learner success was a key factor in making the programme highly impactful.

3.3 Challenges Faced and Solution

 Challenge 1 – Limited Duration of Internship

The internship was only 6 days long, which made it challenging to cover all areas of

19
Salesforce in depth. This limited the opportunity to explore advanced features and
real-world project scenarios.
Solution: Focused on mastering the core functionalities such as custom objects, field
relationships, validation rules, reports, dashboards, and basic automation. By
prioritizing essential topics, I was able to build a solid foundation for future learning.
 Challenge 2 – Understanding New Terminology and Concepts
Salesforce uses specific terminology like objects, fields, relationships, flows, and
validation rules, which were initially unfamiliar.
Solution: Took detailed notes during sessions, revisited training material after class,
and used Salesforce’s Trailhead learning platform for quick concept reinforcement.
 Challenge 3 – Hands-On Practice Limitations
Due to the short timeline, the number of practical exercises was limited, and there was
less time to experiment with multiple use cases.
Solution: Utilized free Salesforce Developer Edition after training hours to practice
additional exercises and replicate the examples given by the trainer.
 Challenge 4 – Navigation Within the Platform
Initially, navigating through different Salesforce components like Setup, Object
Manager, and App Launcher felt confusing.
Solution: Created a personal navigation checklist to remember the steps for creating
objects, setting up relationships, and generating reports, which improved speed and
confidence.
 Challenge 5 – Understanding Business Application of Features
While the technical steps were clear, understanding how each feature applies to real
business processes was initially difficult.
Solution: Asked the trainer for real-world examples and discussed scenarios where
businesses use these tools for sales, service, and decision-making. This made the
concepts more relatable.
