Topic 1: Your English class have been discussing the topic of young people using the internet.
Your teacher
has asked you to write an essay answering the following question:
Is the internet bad for young people?
In today’s world, access to the internet is easier than ever before, whether you are at home, at school, or
even at the beaches you just need to have wifi to access many social platforms. Therefore, many young
people are spending more and more time online this is also a double-edged sword with both positive and
negative consequences.
One significant advantage of the internet is that it allows youngsters to access a vast range of resources so
that young people can research for their assignments and schoolwork. Another positive side of the internet is
that people can easily connect with friends worldwide and therefore they can practice foreign languages by
interacting with people in other countries.
On the other hand, young people can easily rely on the Internet, for instance, when you are given a project
instead of brainstorming and doing it yourself, you go on to the Internet and other AI tools such as ChatGPT
and Gemini which can lessen your creativity and mold a habit of inactive thinking when it came to a
problem. In addition, excessive use of the internet can cause adolescents to isolate themselves from their
friends and family.
In conclusion, the popularity of the Internet these days can negatively and positively impact young people. I
think that the Internet is an amazing tool and its benefits are uncountable but alongside it, we still should be
careful not to use the Internet excessively.
Topic 2: “Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, e-mail,
or telephone calls”.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Our society has undergone many changes in the last few decades, beginning when people communicated
only face-to-face to using mail, fax, and phone. There has been a controversy that face-to-face
communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, e-mails, or telephone calls. In
this essay, I will clarify the problems and explain why I agree with this statement.
Firstly, when talking online people can comfortably confess things that are hard to tell in real life through
face-to-face communication. Furthermore, with the technology development many devices make it easier to
send a message or make a phone call rather than talking face-to-face. For instance, when you need to have
an urgent meeting in the middle of the night, instead of going to the company you can just use a meeting
platform like Zoom or Google Meets which can save you time.
However, face-to-face communication is a natural and primitive way for humans to interact with one
another. Technology can indeed benefit a lot still it only started to develop just a few decades ago; therefore,
it can be hard for older adults to get used to it since they don’t know how to use mobile phones.
Furthermore, interacting face-to-face can foster a deeper connection and strengthen relationships. When
communicating in person we can respond to each other immediately and see their reaction to change our
behavior and words.
All in all, it depends on your purpose to use different kinds of communication. I believe that all important
issues should be discussed face-to-face and if you want to save time you can use other types of
communication, such as letters, e-mails, or telephone calls.
Topic 3: Many people say that cellphone should not be used in class
Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
These days, more and more students have their own cell phones and bridging them to class. Even elementary
school-aged students have cell phones with them all the time. This has lightened up the debate about
whether cell phones should not be used in class or not. In this essay, I will clarify the problem and why I
agree with the statement.
It is true that cell phones can be useful tools for students since they give students access to educational apps
that can help them complete their assignments and stay on top of their classes. Additionally, using social
media can keep students interested in class, some teachers use social media as a means to interact and teach
new skills or to use it during class discussions to share student's own thoughts and ideas.
However, cell phones can lead to issues such as cheating during exams as students might use their devices to
look up answers or communicate with others. Additionally, the notifications and buzzing of phones can
disrupt the concentration of not only the student using the phone but also others around them. It becomes
harder for the student to maintain their focus on doing their task.
All in all, while it is true that bringing cell phones to class can benefit the student to study more effectively
they also strike up problems such as cheating and lack of concentration during study sessions. From my
perspective, I believe that cell phones should be banned from class.
