Stitch guide
FPdc (front post double crochet): yo, insert hook from front to back to front around
the post of indicated stitch, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, pull through 2 lps] x2.
FPdc2tog (front post double crochet 2 together): [yo, insert hook from front to back
to front around the post of next stitch of same color below, yo, draw up a lp, yo, pull
through 2 lps] x2, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook.
FPtr (front post treble crochet): yo twice, insert hook from front to back to front
around the post of indicated stitch, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, pull through 2 lps] x3.
Pattern Notes
1. Reading the pattern. This pattern uses the overlay crochet technique. The whole
idea of overlay crochet is to create a base with simple stitches (single crochet
stitches are generally used), and add long, complex stitches above. The stitches of
the background are always crocheted in back loops only (unless otherwise stated in
the pattern) while the overlay stitches are added (“anchored”) in the front loops of
stitches of rounds below.
All rounds are worked on the right side.
2. Changing colors. The yarn is changed in ch1 in the beg of every rnd. Don’t cut yarn
after each rnd but grab it up on WS. Make sure that the floats of yarn on WS don’t
pull.
3. Finishing rounds. The rounds are joined with ss in first st of the rnd.
4. Gauge. It’s important to have the length of overlaid stitches under control: they
should be neither too loose nor too tight, because this will lead to a deformation of
the motif’s shape. The right tensioned overlay stitches should be made to the height
of the working round.
5. Skipping sts. Overlaid stitches “hide” the stitches of background and this is the
reason, why sc of the working round should be skipped. But please note that the
number of overlaid stitches is NOT always the same as the number of skipped sts. A
stitch count is included at the end of instructions for every rnd to help you avoid
mistakes.
6. Inserting hook.
a. If the overlaid stitch is anchored in the front loop of the st of some underlying
rnd, then the hook is inserted from bottom to top.
b. If you make a front post stitch, the hook is always inserted from front to back
and then again to front around the post (vertical part) of the indicated st. In
other words, the hook will be inserted behind the post.
Pattern repeats:
[…] repeat instruction inside […] as many times as indicated in the pattern.

FINISHING
Block both snowflakes, then place them with WS facing each other and align corners.
Take contrast color that suits both snowflakes. Insert the hook in FPtr in the corner
of both snowflakes through BL, yo, draw up a loop and pull a loop through both
layers. Continue joining two motifs with sc through both layers – work in BLO:
Ch1 (doesn’t count as a st), *2sc in FPtr, 1sc in each st to next corner; rep from * five
times, stuff snowflake lightly, then rep from * once more and join with ss to beg sc.
Fasten off and weave in tails.
Assemble the garland by stringing stuffed snowflakes onto Catona thread with glass
beads in between (optionally). Secure every motif with a knot on both sides to
prevent them from sliding down. After all snowflakes are strung, chain a loop on one
side and attach a tassel on the other side of the garland.
Congratulations! Your Snowflake Garland is now finished!
