Title: The Impact of Music on Student Concentration
Introduction:
Music is an integral part of daily life. Many students listen to music while
studying, but its actual effect on concentration remains debated. This study
explores whether background music helps or distracts students during academic
tasks.
Objective:
To determine the effect of background music on the concentration levels of high
school students.
Methodology:
Population: High school students (ages 14–17).
Sample: 60 students randomly divided into two groups.
Procedure:
Group A studied with soft instrumental music.
Group B studied in silence.
Both groups completed the same 30-minute reading comprehension test.
Results:
Group A (with music) scored an average of 78%.
Group B (silence) scored an average of 81%.
Difference was not statistically significant.
Conclusion:
Background music had a minor negative effect on concentration, but the difference
was small. Silence may be slightly better for tasks requiring deep focus.
Recommendation:
Students can experiment with their own study environment, but silence may work best
for high-concentration tasks.
