What is a Phrasal Verb?


A phrasal verb is a verb combined with one or more particles (prepositions or adverbs) that change
the meaning of the original verb.

Types of Phrasal Verbs


1. Transitive – need an object (e.g., She looked after the baby).
2. Intransitive – do not need an object (e.g., The car broke down).
3. Separable – object can separate verb and particle (e.g., Turn off the light = Turn the light off).
4. Inseparable – object cannot separate (e.g., She looks after the children).

3. Call off – cancel (They called off the meeting.)
