Common Content for Question No. 3 to 4

Most of the measuring instruments require what is known as a “Transducer Element”. Normally a
transducer senses the desired input in one physical form and converts it to an output in another
physical form. For example, the input variable to a transducer could be pressure, acceleration or
temperature and the output of the transducer may be displacement, voltage or resistance change
depending on type of transducer element. Sometimes, the dimensional units of input and output
signal may be the same. In such cases, the functional element is called a transformer. As an example
of input and output in transducers, we can take example of a piezoelectric transducer. This operates
on the principle that when a crystalline material like quartz or barium titanate is distorted, an
electric charge is produced on its surface. Let us consider a cuboid shaped crystal of quartz. If a
force F is applied on one of the faces of the crystal, a deformation will be produced in the crystal,
which will depend upon the Young’s modulus of the crystal. It is found that the charge induced on
the surface on which the force is applied, is directly proportional to the deformation in the crystal.
The proportionality constant is known as charge sensitivity constant. Say if x is the compressive
deformation and Q is the induced charge then charge sensitivity constant is Q/x. In most of the
applications of piezoelectric crystals, the change in thickness upon application of force is very very
small. The crystal can be thought of as a capacitor across which the potential difference is developed
due to application of pressure. The voltage sensitivity of a piezoelectric crystal is defined as the ratio
of voltage across the crystal to the linear deformation in the crystal.

3) A unit force on one of the faces of a quartz crystal induces a charge of 2 pC on the face. Its
dielectric constant is 4.5 and Young’s modulus is 9 × 1010 Pa, the voltage sensitivity constant
approximately, is

(A) 4000 V/μm

(B) 4100 V/μm

(D) 4520 V/μm

4) Which of the following involves a “transformer” type of transducer?

(A) A binocular
(B) A thermometer
(C) A mercury manometer
(D) A venturimeter

5) Say K1 is the charge sensitivity constant, C is the capacitance and K is the voltage sensitivity
constant, then

(A)

(B) K = CK1

41)

∴ equation of line L2 = 0 is
L2 : 3x – 4y + 12 = 0
Now, incentre of the ΔABC is
∴λ= , k=0
10k – 24λ = 9

42) ⇒λ=1

43) Possible values are –2, –1, 0, 1, 2

44)

45) R3 → R3 – (cosx) R1
f(x) = (cos2x – secx – cot2x) (cosx – cos3x)

f(x) = cos3x(sin2x – 1) – sin2x

f(x) = –cos5x – sin2x
46) x ∈ [0, p]

47)

A. As D1 = D2 = D3 = 0 and

∴ Non-trivial solution.
B. Homogeneous system is always consistent.
C. x + ay + az = 0 …(i)
x + by + bz = 0 …(ii)
x + cy + cz = 0 …(iii)
Now assume y = t.
equation (i) – equation (ii)
∴ y = –z and x = 0
∴ x = 0, y = t, z = –t
D. x + ay + az = 0 …(i)
x + ay + az = 0 …(ii)
x + ay + az = 0 …(iii)
Now assume y = t1, z = t2
On solving (i), (ii) & (iii)
x = –a(t1 + t2)

50)
differentiate w.r.t. 'x'

...(1)
From (1)

let g(x) + g'(x) = 12x2 + 2 ⇒

(∵ y = g(x))
51)
differentiate w.r.t. 'x'

...(1)
Put x = 0 in (1) we get g(0) = 0

52)
x = sinθ, dx = cosθ dθ

53)

Put x = sinθ

54) Let f(x) = (1 – x2)1/3

also f(0) = 1 & f(1) = 0
⇒ f–1(1) = 0 & f–1(0) = 1

Consider I1 – I2 =

56) (P) 2x + 3y – 5 = 0
2x + 3y + c = 0
line passes through (0, 0)
2(0) + 3(0) + c = 0
c=0
2x + 3y = 0
(Q) 3x + 2y – 1 = 0

m1 =

m2 =
y – 0 = m(x – a)

y = (x – 2)
3y = 2x – 4
2x – 3y – 4 = 0
(R) Using section formula, the coordinates of P

Q = (0, 4)
x+y=4

(S)
x+y=a
line passes through (1, 1)
a=2
equation of line
x+y=2

57) When x ∈ (–2, –1)

[x] = –2
we know that [x + I] = [x] + I
I is integer
∴ [x + [x]] = [x] + [x] = –4
∴ [x + [x + [x]]] = [x – 4] = [x] – 4 = –6

∴J=
