A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING CORRECTING THE BRGY. BALUD FIESTA CELEBRATION FROM
26 OF DECEMBER TO THE THIRD SATURDAY OF AUGUST, IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE FEAST
DAYS OF THE PATRON SAINTS, AND PROMOTING THE PROPER HONOR AND UNDERSTANDING
OF CATHOLIC CULTURE AND TRADITIONS
WHEREAS, the Barangay Balud Fiesta has traditionally been celebrated on December 26, in
honor of the patron saint, San Roque, and Nuestra Señora de la Salvación, and this celebration
has been an important part of the community’s cultural and religious practices, highlighting the
rich history and traditions of Barangay Balud.
WHEREAS, the feast days of the patron saint, San Roque, which is observed on August 16, and
Nuestra Señora de la Salvación, whose diocesan feast is celebrated every third Saturday of
August, are both significant days in the Catholic calendar. These dates are dedicated to
honoring these revered figures and their roles in the community’s spiritual life.
WHEREAS, the current schedule of the Barangay Balud Fiesta, held on December 26, does not
coincide with the actual feast days of the patron saints. This misalignment limits the
community's ability to properly honor and give reverence to San Roque and Nuestra Señora de
la Salvación during their designated feast days, which are specifically set aside for such
celebrations.
WHEREAS, correcting the celebration to the third Saturday of August would enable the
community to observe the feast days of the patron saints more appropriately. It would foster a
more meaningful and focused celebration, allowing residents to dedicate a special occasion to
honor San Roque and Nuestra Señora de la Salvación, thereby deepening their understanding
and appreciation of Catholic traditions and cultural heritage.
WHEREAS, the month of December is traditionally reserved for the solemn celebration of Jesus
Christ’s birth, emphasizing themes of family, faith, and spirituality, which are core aspects of
Catholic teachings. Maintaining December 26 as the date for the barangay fiesta could dilute
the significance of Christmas and its associated religious observances.
WHEREAS, this proposal is significant in preserving & promoting the culture & stories of
Barangay Balud, which should have valued & enriched to ensure their continuity & appreciation
for future generations.
WHEREAS, this proposed change aims to correct the scheduling inconsistency, promote proper
observance of the feast days, and enhance the community’s respect and understanding of
Catholic culture and traditions. It seeks to foster a more meaningful connection between
religious practices and community celebrations, ensuring that the cultural heritage is preserved
and appropriately honored.
NOW, THEREFORE, on motion by Hon. Jefferson Edem, duly seconded by Hon. Renato C. Zosa &
Hon. Ma. Iris J. Aliman, Punong Barangay, it is RESOLVED, as it is hereby RESOLVED, to
recommend the correction of the Barangay Balud Fiesta from December 26 to the third
Saturday of August to better align with the feast days of the patron saints and to promote the
proper observance and understanding of Catholic traditions within the community.
