ASSIGNMENT 2

1.The electric field due to a point charge decreases with distance. If the electric field
is E at 2 meters, we want to find the distance where the electric field is E/9.

2. A conducting sphere of radius 15 cm has an unknown charge. If the electric field 30

cm from the center of the sphere is 2.0 x 10^3 N/C, directed radially outward, what is
the net charge on the sphere?

3.A system has two charges:Q1 = 3 × 10-7 C located at point A: (0, 0, -20 cm)Q2 = -3 × 10-7
C located at point B: (0, 0, +20 cm).Find the electric dipole moment of this system.

4.The electric field In a region is given by E=(10x+4) I^,where, x is in m and E is in N/C.

Calculate the amount of work done in taking a unit charge from

(i) (5 m,0) to (10 m,0)

(ii) (5 m,0) to (5 m,10 m)

5.A parallel plate capacitor has plate area A and plate separation d. The half of the
space between the plates is filled with the material of dielectric constant K in 2 ways
as shown in the figure . Find the values of the capacitance of the capacitors in the 2
cases.

6. The resistance of a wire at 25∘C is 10.0Ω. When heated to 125∘C, its resistance
becomes 10.5Ω. Find (i) the temperature coefficient of resistance of the wire, and (ii)
the resistance of the wire at 425∘C.

7.Two infinitely long straight wires ‘ 1 ‘ and ‘ 2 ‘ are placed d distance apart, parallel to
each other, as shown in the figure. They are uniformly charged having charge densities
λ and – λ/2 respectively. Locate the position of the point from wire ‘ 1 ‘ at which the net
electric field is zero.
