Offshore Platforms
Offshore structures primarily consist of offshore oil platforms which are large-scale structures installed in the sea. They
can accommodate the facilities and equipment to drill, extract, and process oil and natural gases. With the need for clean
energy, offshore wind farms were constructed across the world which consists of large number of offshore wind
turbines (OWTs). The type of platform and its foundation/ support (above figure) depends on the water depth.

Offshore platforms : Life-cycle
▪ Concept Phase: Generate ideas for effective production (offshore oil & gas etc.)
▪ Pre-engineering Phase: Work out the installation, cost, construction schedule etc.
▪ Engineering Phase: Produce design details for construction and installation
▪ Procurement Phase: Materials and equipment procured from suppliers at agreed standards
▪ Construction Phase: Parts of offshore installation are integrated to form final structure
▪ Commissioning Phase: Commissioned and installation ready for hand-over to operator.
▪ Operational Phase: Continuous production of oil and gas and their transport to refineries.
Inspection, maintenance and repair to be done.
▪ Decommissioning Phase: Operation completed, effective and environmentally acceptable way.
