ACTIVITY COMPLETION REPORT (ACR)
PART I. Title of Activity: SCNHS Day 1 “Addressing Learning Gap Through the
Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program”
Venue: Santa Cruz National High School, Malabago, Santa Cruz, Zambales
Grade Levels Covered: Junior and Senior High School Teachers and
Administrators
Prepared by: Juanito M. Pamitangco Jr.
Date: August 26, 2025
I. Background:
The Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program is a key
intervention by the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines, designed
to address the learning gaps caused by the disruptions brought about the
academic challenges. Launched under the MATATAG agenda, the ARAL Program
aims to help learners, especially those who are struggling or at risk of falling
behind, by providing targeted and accessible learning support.
The Implementing Guidelines of the ARAL Program outline the structure, goals,
and processes for delivering these interventions effectively. These include the
identification of priority learners, provision of remedial and tutorial sessions in
foundational subjects (like reading, math, and science), and collaboration with
teachers, parents, and community stakeholders. The guidelines ensure that the
program is implemented consistently across schools, focusing on inclusivity,
equity, and quality of education.
II. Objectives:
1. To present the key components and implementation guidelines of the ARAL
Program.
2. To align teachers’ roles and responsibilities in delivering intervention
strategies.
3. To discuss monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the program.
III. Narrative Report:
The first day of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program
was conducted with the focus on the topic Phrases, Synonyms, and Antonyms.
The session began with a short review and guided reading activities where
students were introduced to examples of phrases and were asked to identify
them within short passages. The reading activity showed that most of the

learners could read words and sentences clearly and fluently, which is a good sign
of their basic reading ability. However, as the lesson progressed, certain
difficulties were observed.
When asked to give examples of synonyms and antonyms, many students
struggled to supply the correct answers. While some were able to recall familiar
words, most had difficulty expanding their vocabulary and relating it to the
examples given by the teacher. Similarly, when comprehension questions were
asked based on the short passages they had read, only a few were able to
provide the correct answers. This revealed that while the students could decode
and pronounce words accurately, their comprehension skills were limited. They
tended to rely on guessing or repeating words from the text instead of giving
thoughtful responses.
Despite these challenges, the session highlighted the students’ positive attitude
and willingness to learn. They were participative during the reading activities and
attentive while listening to explanations about phrases and word relationships.
Their clear reading voices reflected confidence, even though understanding the
meaning behind the words was an area that needed further development.
Overall, the first day of the ARAL Program showed that the learners are on the
right path in strengthening their literacy skills. While comprehension, vocabulary
building, and critical thinking still need close support, the foundation of fluency
and willingness to engage are already present. With continuous practice and
guided activities, the learners are expected to improve in providing examples of
synonyms and antonyms, as well as in answering comprehension questions more
accurately in the next sessions.
