What do I learn from this Navarathri?
and its assocation with Lab medicine💭
Navarathri is celebration of the “ power of Godess Shakthi”.
As Sri Godess Durga :-
1. Clinical Laboratory has the power to guide and lead health care management.
2. The laboratory medicine connects with various non core divisions and clinical departments to work as team.
3. The public network of clinical laboratory is enormous and its a “key” in diagnostic stewardship.
As Sri Goddess Mahalakshmi-
1. Laboratory generates good revenue to support itself and other departments
2. The Turn Around time of laboratory tests reduces the length of stay ( LOS) and hence adds value to Hospital
revenue
3. The laboratory helps build the data for the nation which in turn converts into GDP.
As Sri Saraswati Matha-
1. Laboratory medicine is a wonderful subject which revolves round Antomy, physiology, chemistry and medicine
which translates to pathology. The specialist is a great knowledgeable person as he/ she needs to specialised in
entire speciality’s available.
2. Laboratory always is leader in learning including quality care and patient safety
3. Laboratory always leads in clinical research and translational research 🔬.
Shailaputri - Laboratory in its initial days of set up when the lab team learns to deliver accurate report within the
acceptable TAT. This is similar to the birth of Shailaputri destined for greater good.
Brahmacharini -Lab as a team preparing and implementing ISO 15189 to maintain quality Stds and going in for
NABL/CAP accreditation. This can be equated to Maa Brahmacharini performing difficult penance to marry Lord
Shiva.
Chandraghanta - That phase of the lab when it has been granted accreditation and the team is stable and proud of
the achievement. The lab continues to deliver the quality in terms of process and protocol. This is similar to Maa
Chandraghanta who is married to Lord Shiva and is now stable and full of energy.
Kushmanda - Laboratory decides to expand, adding in higher end tests to its menu. The team works with each
other to create the new departments like molecular biology and Genetics. This is the extrapolation of Devi
Kushmanda who is believed to have created the world from her primordial energy
Skandamata - Laboratory excelling in New departments and making sure that the diagnosis of certain rare
pathogens through molecular biology panels guides the clinicians to kill the organisms causing sepsis which is life
saving. This is similar to Skanda killing Tarakasura with the help of his mother Parvati (Skandamata).
Katyayini - Lab getting ready with extended panels in oncopathology to help the patients. Drawing similarity to
Katyayini being born as Rishi Katyayan's daughter to kill Mahishasura.
Kaalaratri - The lab clinching the diagnosis of cancers and the molecular oncology team identifying the markers
along with mutations by Cytogenetics team which will guide the treatment of oncology cases. This makes sure that
the cancer cells have been offered a targeted treatment to prevent recurrence. This is the extrapolation of Maa Kaali
extending her tongue to make sure that not even a single drop of blood of Raktabeejasura falls on the ground which
helped Maa Ambika to kill him. Cancer cells can be compared to Raktabeejasuras as he had the boon that with
every drop of his blood that touches the ground, those many Raktabeejasuras would pop up.
Mahagauri - Lab as a team brings in calm and reduces anxiety with preventive health checks. This is similar to
Mahagauri who is calm and composed.
Siddidhatri - Lab reaching a stage as a team wherein everyone in the lab takes up equal ownership, learns new
things, technical updates in their field and propagates to others in the lab. This would be like Train the Trainer kind
of a concept. It can be equated to Maa Siddidhatri who is the personification of knowledge and who grants siddis to
her devotees.
All through the above analogies, it is clear that lab is a team. It exemplifies the result of good teamwork. Let's build
great teams which will deliver accurate results and help patients.. JAI DURGA
