the University of Arizona Global Campus Catalog. This catalog addresses
the core competencies that the general education courses must cover:
Ethical Reasoning, Written Communication, Oral and Interpersonal
Communication, Information Literacy, Critical Thinking, and Quantitative
Reasoning.
Reflect: Think about the core competencies as previously mentioned, and
ponder your time taking general education courses. Reflect on the specific
courses not associated with your college major and determine the level of
new information you have acquired that relates to the core competencies.
You must also think about a potential job you might apply to once you
graduate and determine what skills you developed through general
education courses that make you qualified for a specific job.
Write: For this discussion, you will address the following prompts:

 Review a job description through a job website (e.g., Career

Builder (Links to an external site.), Monster (Links to an external
site.), etc.) in your desired career field. Please provide the job
title and the link to the job description.
 Identify at least five skills you have obtained through your
general education courses that will make you successful at this
job.
 Demonstrate with at least two examples how your newly
acquired knowledge and skills have shaped both your personal
and professional development.
 Describe your plans for putting your education to use within your
community.
Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length, which should
include a thorough response to each prompt. You are required to provide
in-text citations of applicable required reading materials and/or any other
outside sources you use to support your claims. Provide full reference
entries of all sources cited at the end of your response. Please use correct
APA format when writing in-text citations (see In-Text Citation
Helper (Links to an external site.)) and references (see Formatting Your
References List (Links to an external site.)).
Respond to Peers: Review your classmates’ posts, and respond to at
least two of your peers by Day 7. In your responses, provided feedback on
the different skills your peers have acquired that would make them
successful in their chosen career field. Each participation post should be a
minimum of 75 words.

The job title of my choosing is a business administrator with this link

keywords=Business+Administrator&location=St+Louis%2C+MO. General education is

so important to your future success that in most school curriculums, you’ll learn how to

identify opportunities and challenges, how to analyse problems and situations, and how to

identify and develop solutions. One also has the opportunity to learn how to collaborate and

communicate, which are essential skills for any leader. This may not seem like a lot when

you first think about it, but it will serve you well and it’s a lot more than you’ll get in a

technical major. That’s why many of the most interesting and lucrative careers today

involve the study of business. By developing the skills discussed above, one is well-

positioned to pursue a rewarding career after gaining such skills. The organization that you

will work for can achieve its goals, no matter what regardless of the conditions (Dalbotten,

2014). You may even find that your interests in your general education classes are well-

suited to a career in the business world. In a global context, how to communicate

effectively, and how to collaborate with others. An individual will also develop the critical

thinking and writing skills you need to succeed in your future career or your graduate

program.

That is why a major in general education is so important to your future success. In the

business school curriculum, you will learn how to identify opportunities and challenges,

how to analyse problems, and how to generate new ideas and solve problems. You’ll also

learn how to collaborate and communicate with others, which is necessary for any field, and

any job. Most importantly, you will learn the skills to become a lifelong learner. From a
variety of perspectives, and how to approach situations that don’t have clear-cut solutions.

You will also learn how to communicate effectively and build relationships. The curriculum

allows you to develop a broad perspective on the world and how to approach problems in a

variety of contexts (Danton, 2013). This helps you to become more adaptable and future-

ready. As a Cog Connects Fellow, I will use my education to fuel my love of tinkering,

invention, and creativity. I will use my education to help others in my community by

providing them with access to the tools and resources I have learned and by providing them

with a sounding board for their ideas and innovations. I will use my education to help me

further my goals of becoming an inventor and entrepreneur by providing me with the

confidence and knowledge I need to successfully pursue my dreams. Cog Connects is

providing me with the opportunity to further my education while also providing me with the

opportunity to put my education to use in my community (Downing, 2017).
