What is Over-The-Air (OTA)
Update?
OTA (Over-The-Air) update is the process of
delivering software or firmware updates wirelessly
to electronic devices.

Updates are sent via Wi-Fi, cellular, or Bluetooth

from a server to the device without needing
physical access.
Key Features of OTA Updates
Wireless & Remote: No physical connection
required

Automatic or Scheduled: Updates can run in the

background

Secure Transmission: Often encrypted and

verified

Incremental Updates: Only parts of software

change, saving bandwidth
Why Should All Electronic Products Have
OTA?

• Security: Patch vulnerabilities

instantly to protect users

• Bug Fixes: Resolve known issues

and add new features after
release

• Feature Additions: Add new

functions without replacing
hardware

• Lifecycle Cost: Reduce support

costs and extends product
lifespans
With vs Without OTA (Comparison Table)

Risks of OTA & How to Mitigate Them
OTA needs to be implemented carefully to avoid its
risks

Risk Mitigation
