POWER BI DATA MODELING

BOOKMARK

• A Bookmark in Power BI is a feature that allows you to capture the current state of a
report page .

Why Use Bookmarks?

To implement show/hide effects for visuals.
DRILLTHROUGH IN POWER BI
• Drillthrough in Power BI lets you right-click on a data point in one report page
and navigate to another page that shows detailed information about that
specific data point.
Why Use Drillthrough?
To provide detailed insights for a selected item.

How Drillthrough Works

1. Main Page (Summary Page)
2. Drillthrough Page (Detail Page)
WHAT IS DATA MODELING

• Data Modeling in Power BI is the process of connecting, organizing, and

structuring data from different sources so you can analyze it effectively. It defines
how tables relate to each other, making it easier to build accurate and interactive
reports.

• Power BI supports joins, but it handles them through relationships rather than
traditional SQL joins.
RELATIONSHIPS

• Types:
1. One-to-Many (1:*):One record in one table is related to multiple records in another
table.
2. Many-to-Many (:) relationship occurs when multiple records in one table are related
to multiple records in another table.
3. One-to-One (1:1) Each record in Table A is related to only one record in Table B.
Each record in Table B is related to only one record in Table A.
CARDINALITY

• Describes how data is related:

One-to-Many

one-to-One

Many-to-Many
STAR SCHEMA

• Star Schema is a way of organizing data in Power BI.

• It looks like a star because one main table (Fact Table) is in the center, and other
small tables (Dimension Tables) are connected around it.
• Fact Table (Center Table) :stores numbers or values we want to analyze (like sales,
quantity, revenue).
• Dimension Tables (Side Tables):
Store details about things (like customer info, product info, date info).
