Property Cards

The document outlines various property cards used in OptiStruct/Nastran Radioss and LS-DYNA, detailing the types of elements available such as shells, solids, bars, beams, and springs. It specifies when to use each element type based on their characteristics and applications in modeling. Additionally, it includes notes on the properties and definitions for composite materials and other structural components.

When to Use
Thin-walled plates, sheet metal, or chassis tubes (t/D ≤ 0.1). Fast and accurate for global stiffness.
Composite laminates (monocoque, undertray, body). When ply-level definition is required.
Large composite laminate models where memory efficiency is needed.
Shear panels/diaphragms in frames; when only shear stiffness is needed.
Solid parts with thickness comparable to in-plane dimensions (blocks, lugs, brackets).
Fluids or CFD coupling inside solid regions.
Quick frame models with 1D bars (axial + bending).
Bar elements with dimension-based section input.
Beam sections with offsets, torsion, and shear flexibility.
Detailed beam definition with section library or offsets.
Axial-only rods (tension/compression links, cables).
Cylindrical/pipe cross-sections modeled as beams.
Simplified spring representation (coil spring, anti-roll link).
Linear spring elements (elastic mounts).
Rubber mounts, isolators, or 6-DOF joint stiffness.
Lumped mass where geometry is not modeled (battery, driver).
Gap/contact where surfaces open/close under load.
