Science Experiment: The Power of Plants – How Sunlight Affects Growth
Objective
To observe the effect of sunlight on the growth of a plant.
Materials
- 2 small pots
- Soil
- 2 bean seeds (or any fast-growing seeds)
- Water
- A sunny spot
- A dark cupboard/box
- Ruler
- Notebook & pen
Procedure
1. Fill both pots with the same amount of soil.
2. Plant one bean seed in each pot at the same depth.
3. Place Pot A in a sunny window and Pot B inside a dark cupboard/box.
4. Water both pots with the same amount of water daily.
5. Observe and record growth every day for 2 weeks. Measure the plant height using a ruler.
Observations
- Note the number of leaves, height, and overall health of each plant.
- Draw simple sketches of the plants at the end of each week.
Expected Result
- The plant in sunlight (Pot A) will grow taller, healthier, and greener.
- The plant kept in the dark (Pot B) may grow weak, pale, and smaller.
Conclusion
Sunlight is essential for photosynthesis. Plants need sunlight to produce their food and grow strong
and healthy.
