Five things to do in Venice: Activity 1
Read and listen to the blog post about Venice. Then choose the correct
paragraph.
Five things to do in Venice
There are literally thousands of incredible things to do and see in
Venice. But if you don’t have much time, here are my top five…
A
Piazza San Marco
This is the most famous tourist attraction in Venice and one of the most
famous squares in the world. If you visit in the evening, you can have a
drink, listen to jazz and classical music playing outside, and watch the
people of Venice. But be prepared – it’s always crowded.
B
A vaporetto on the Grand Canal
Take the vaporetto (or water bus) down the Grand Canal for a unique
experience. You can travel all the way down the canal and take
amazing photographs of the beautiful buildings. The best time to go
is just before sunset, but it’s sometimes cold, so take a sweater or a
jacket.
C
San Giorgio Maggiore
This is a short trip from San Marco (by vaporetto), but there’s a very
different atmosphere here. It’s quiet and relaxing. You can take an
elevator to the top of the tower and there are fantastic views of the city.
You can also see some beautiful paintings here.
D
Rialto
It’s not easy to find, but if you like food, this is one place that you really
need to visit. If you go early in the morning, that’s when you can see
local Venetians shopping for food. There’s an incredible selection of
fresh fruit, vegetables, and local ham and cheese. There’s a fish and
seafood market on Fridays and Saturdays.
E
Real Venice!
Venice is full of tourist attractions, but maybe the most interesting
places in the city are the streets where the local people live. Here you
can often find the best restaurants and the best stores. Get up very early
in the morning, before the buses and boats full of tourists arrive, and if
you listen carefully, you can hear the sound of the canal.
